Thank you. My kids are growing up and I have time to find a hobby now that I'm getting older. I took shop in high school and really enjoyed the wood working parts but that was 35 years ago 😬. I've been whittling comfort birds and want to try something different so I'm thinking about trying to make some bowls. Your video was useful for letting me know what to expect.

This was really informative but no one has really taken the time to actually show the wood getting mounted on the lathe. I know you spoke about cutting the X in the wood but what about the tail stock. Does that actually remain stationary throughout the entire turning process? You added oil onto it but is that so the wood doesn't burn? Do I find center with the X and pound that in then slide the tail stock back into position and tighten it?
