You are right. I believe Christians gave the label of sinister to the word and or books on the occult. Amongst the pages I noticed symbols on a page. One looks like the Odal Rune. I think the occult gets a bad rap due to some of the people who have used occult writings for their own bad intentions. Like Prince Stash says, it could be used for good or ill
