At least as prisoners they might get 2 or more meals per day

Those NK soldiers will never be allowed back in NK. They've been exposed to the world too long.

How smart! For North Koreans who by all accounts live such difficult lives, it would not be surprising if many “volunteered” to go to war for Russia, just to surrender to Ukraine and try to achieve a better future.

About 6 years ago I was in University. I had a South Korean teacher who told us that border guards are often seen busy tending their gardens. Why? They are constantly HUNGRY. That's why they defected because where they came from is a large and beautiful DUMP without enough food, no electricity, unless you live in Pyongyang, no running water, few have vehicles and are living in the 19th century. I'd go to the other side too, just to get a warm coat and a meal.

Not only are the N. Korean men defecting to Ukraine, the Russian men are leaving and flooding SE Asia to avoid the war. Thailand in particular is experiencing huge numbers of Russian men more or less hiding out, and Phuket has literally been overrun by young Russian men, so much so that the Thai people there are fed up with their presence.

As a famous man once said... We may have our issues here in the west, but we don't have to build walls to keep our people from running away.

As soon as North Koreans get a bit of Oreos, Purple Mattress, the Hub, Baja Blast, and Texas Pete covered Ramen noodles its OVER for Kim.

It's crazy to think that 1/3 of 9/11 equivalent casualties are dying in Russia every day. It doesn't matter whether they are from North Korea, Russia, or Ukraine, young men's lives cut short is nothing less than a tragedy.

To distract Russian soldiers, leave bottles of vodka. To distract North Korean soldiers, leave loaves of bread.

They saw the food and realized it was better than what they were eating in North Korea

Not really surprising. I expect Russia is mostly planing to use the NK soldiers for Operation Bullet Sponge and Operation Human Shield.

To become a Special Forces soldier in the armed forces of the DPRK, you just need to be free of tapeworms!

Ukrainian: "Sorry, all we can offer you is some borsch"
North Korean: "I have only dreamed of eating beet soup!"

North Korean soldiers have a special "stealth" feature. They're so malnourished and skinny that when they turn sideways they go invisible

using north korean troops is just pure desperation lol

An issue I have heard no one talk about is the fact that these North Koreans going to Ukraine are probably on a one-way trip. Not due to Cannon fodder but cultural exposure. They're going to see so much and experience so much and if they bring it home with them they will start to format uprisings in North Korea

North Korean troops.. who haven't seen combat since the 1950's... im honestly astonished they didn't piss themselves the instant they set foot on the battlefield

How desperate do you have to be to need help from North Korea?

Wow a chance for freedom 😊, people don't want to die for whatever stupid reason. More power to the defectors who decide to live😊

You may have got the loyalty attribute backwards. Kim probably does not count on seeing any of those soldiers back, ever. They would be the biggest threat to him, just by their having had a glimpse of the outside world, by their having had internet access. Furthermore, they will have military experience, which most North Korean forces do not have. If those soldiers ever go back to North Korea, they will be the most likely people to challenge the Kim dynasty. What I have heard is that these soldiers were simply volunteers. Anyone who volunteered was sent to Russia. This is a brilliant move from Kim. He gets rid of anyone curious enough to want to leave the country for a while just to see the outside world. In fact, you can be sure they did not volunteer due to love of Russia, which is why deserting and joining Ukraine might even be more desirable to them than fighting for Russia. If such was Kim's thinking, he should have no intention to allow them to return, and will probably tell Putin "you can keep them, komrade ... just because I'm oh so generous ..."
