For me, legroom does nothing. It’s my shoulder width. Absolute agony being in those narrow seats.

I really like Spirit airlines' big front seat, though I wouldnt consider it first class

Actually, the odds are that it's NOT cheap. I've never seen a first class seat on a US carrier be "cheap".

If I ever fly again, I will have to upgrade. I am way too tall, have a bad ankle and two bad knees to ever again put me thru the hell of third class seating.

US domestic first class is the equivalent of Premium Economy at best, unless you’re flying transcontinental, it best just to sit bulkhead or endure the 1-2 hours flight.

I got a delta upgrade from Seattle to Detroit for $100 and an Alaska upgrade from Seattle to Detroit for $150. It all depends on what you’re willing to pay. For me who’s a little bigger, the extra money is worth it, but depends on the person

I remember a flight I had going from RDU to somewhere - I have forgotten - I know it was a DC9. Being an international traveller and with the status I had I could have 3 bags. I bought some stuff creating a second bag. When I went to check-in I only had an economy ticket I was only allowed 1 bag. They told me the cost for the second bag which was huge, and I noticed on the wall the upgrade cost was considerably cheaper (like $25 or 50), so I did that and got my extra bag included1

Hello! One other thing to consider that makes domestic (US) first class less valuable: it does not, in itself, contain lounge access at the initial purchase anymore.

I'm 5'-11"
but wear a 50" jacket
(I still have people ask me if I ever played college or pro football)
Added leg room is nice,
but 2 to 2-1/2 extra inches in width is wonderful.
It's not just the seat itself, it's also the arm rest.
Also only 2 across vs 3.
Being older and after 35 years in construction, my shoulders ACHE after just 1 hour in economy.
(I treat my seat mates with respect. They paid for their seat and don't deserve my arms in their area)
$50 an hour is cheap to prevent discomfort.
All the other perks, even if you discount them, as in this video, they still add a certain "attitude" to the flight.
So many people fly with a sense of drudgery or disdain.
I want to enjoy it as much as possible, including my attitude.

"Food youd consider eating on land"

Thats such a good point. The food in US airlines' premium cabins are in such horrible shape that youd never go back if you were served them in a premium restaurant

I upgrade because of my very poor vision so that I can get people to help me at the check-in, getting through TSA, boarding, etc. For me, it is worth the extra cost.

Bro the furthest airport away from that counts as domestic is less than an hour, and there is no 1st class

I once upgraded to Alaska Airlines first class for just $60. Since I was planning on checking two bags and paying that much in bag fees anyway, the upgrade was effectively $0. Now, to be fair, I could have flown Southwest on the same route for the same price as economy on Alaska, but I had a voucher I got from them due to a past flight having a mechanical fault and getting diverted.

US first class or business. I don't think we have first class anymore is total s**t. It's not worth it

$50 per hour? I'm still going to get there at the same time and I'll have hundreds of dollars left over to do something fun in the city I get to.
