Is this your land, or do you roam all over state and federal land? Either way, it's breathtaking. When my kids are on their own, I want to start roaming myself

I love your sweater, matches your hair perfectly. My go-to choice is a knife ( not my hunting knife ) and magnesium stick my son bought me for my b-day years back. Very quick and easy, an essential tool for camping.

My primary fire starting method! Thanks for sharing. I try to use punk wood, as cotton cloth could be hard to find went out in the bush.

Mr Patrick blank ( Jack craftey)
Sent me a specific type of Texas flint that he claimed will spark particularly well.
I haven't made a striker yet, but I Will.
Unfortunately I need to season and build more fire starting tools for next year.
I already have the honey locust board. I will have to sacrifice a chokecherry arrow for a spindle.
Luckily there's a bunch of poplar (for dry cambium pices) for starting nests in my area.
I should be able to get started back on all my builds after I move to the new apartment next month.
I'll definitely let you know how more experiment goes this year.

That would be a good secondary back up

Down and dirty but sweet and simple too👍 definitely can see why I struggled with getting the spark to land where I wanted due to try to catch it below and using too small a piece initially. Won't forget that rip post lit tip 🤙

Never tried with flint/steel but have got some old unburnt coals to take sparks and get a fire going.
Your videos do tell a story well.

Thanks for the video and info. I carry 2 lighters and a ferro rod with a fire kit. If I'm in a life safety situation where I need fire fast then the lighter is what I use. If not then I practice with the ferro rod. Might look at flint & steel to add to my kit.

Hey donny would you be interested in doing "Native" survival techniques? An example is when I reinvented the "Ash Bed" when I didnt bring a sleeping bag only a blanket(was inexperienced) below 32f. I called it a sinners grave, basically a grave filled with coals which you lay thin dirt and wool blanket under over for warmth. Rambling rn but id appreciate interesting videos on things like this not getting much light in YT, Cheers🤙

Also for an additional note. Dried pine, or sassafras has very flammable resins inside. Using them for split kindling with a knife, just a limb on half, makes for reliable ignition.

I gotta get off my butt and make some char cloth! I have all the materials…. I plan to have my Scout Troop spend a primitive weekend in the wood this spring. You have been their (and mine) inspiration for it. 🤙🏼

So, one of your previous posts was in the Chihuahua desert, now this one is in a mountain pine forest ... perhaps Lincoln National Forest?
