Watch this video for a simple tutorial on solvent welding. This video features Oatey Purple Primer and Oatey Heavy Duty Clear solvent cement. Oatey® Purple Primer is formulated for PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings. It removes surface dirt, grease, and grime, as well as softens the pipe surface to allow a fast, secure solvent weld. Oatey® PVC Heavy Duty Medium Set Clear Cement is recommended for use on all schedules and classes of PVC pipe and fitting up to 12 in. diameter with interference fit, up to 18 in. for non-pressure. Its thick formula fills gaps in large diameter pipe and fitting joints.

Always turn fittings a little once they bottom out to prevent leaks. Turning the pipe gets rid of axial imperfections from the inside of the joint to the outside.

Most plumbers I've worked with shake off the excess primer into the can before applying it. Nobody gets greedy with the glue though! They slather it on!!!! I nevere seen the three step but now know glue has to be applied 5 minutes after being primed!!! Thanks Oaty for your information!!👍🏽🙏🏽🤎🧑🏼‍🔧🔧

Why would you wipe of the activated excess cement with a clean virgin cement brush and put it back in the tin contaminating the rest??

Use this product all the time for plumbing

How long do you wait after you prime the pipe to add the cemnet?

I"m going to be using this on the glass door track of a PVC reptile enclosure to the pvc enclosure itself. Should be just as strong, correct? Thank you.

So I learned the application is OHIO: prime/cement the tube that eats the other tube, then p/c the tube that gets eaten, then p/c the wide mouth bass once more. But then it can be the opposite, so said another YouTube instructor. But there's more...

What I find even more confusing is how the hardware stores push the various color-labeled cans. Even talking to Oatey wasn't satisfying. The responses seem like you are annoying them for asking.

Lowes sold me: (Purple label) Primer and (Red label) All-purpose Cement. ACE sold me: (Yellow label) Clear Cleaner and (Goldish label) Regular Clear PVC Cement.  And Oatey HQ told me: I did not need the (Yellow label) Clear Cleaner, but I did need the (Purple label) Primer and preferably the (Goldish label) Regular Clear PVC Cement--so one from Lowes and one from ACE.

And ACE in contradiction to both told me to use something called Megaloc thread sealant or Great White® Pipe Joint Compound with PTFE if intend to screw a PVC adapter into a water filter housing that is plastic threaded, like the Culligan WH-HD200-C, or metal threaded, like the Waterdrop AP431 AP430SS--all of which I have to research before I can even begin to understand what now.

This is probably a very easy job. And in my case a very necessary job: since no plumber in our area will even return a phone call they are so free of competition. (Great job, public schools!) It would be nice if the pros could take more time to share the How-To of their product aside from a YouTube.

Now in our smallest containers ever. Same high price maybe even more.

The most amazing thing about Oarey PVC glues is how fast they dry out in the can and become useless waste. I've thrown out a zillion mostly full cans of Oatey glue that's become too thick/dried out to use. Why doesn't Oatey develop a thinner/rejuvinator? Oh, that's it...they'd rather sell you a new can! I wish there was a good alternative.

What is the name of that tool that you guys used to deburr and chamfer the pipe?

How long do you leave primer on before applying cement?

Oatey, I’m cutting off a 90 degree bend from a stub out. There is old glue extending past the 90 fitting about half an inch. Do I need to cut beyond the glue or will the cleaner and primer remove the old cement (fitting is 40 years old). Hoping the cleaner and primer will remove or negate the old residual cement on the sch 40 pvc as I want to follow the 90 degree fitting’s end to make my cut square (this is for a drain on bath sink in a small vanity so it will be an effort to get a square cut, especially if not following the edge of the old 90 degree elbow currently cemented on the stub out)
Since I’m using a manual PVC pipe saw

What if not possible to twist? My pool filter inlet is fixed and cannot twist connection and other side is connected to pool pump (also cannot twist)

Shit. I've plumbed my mother in laws house and only put glue on one side with no primer . She's an asshole anyway but no leaks 😂

I bought Oatey medium orange cement (for CPVC) by mistake for my PVC sink drain. I used it, do I need to re-do it or do you think it will be OK?

Has anyone ever wondered why Oatey doesn't seal their containers tightly with a rubber gasket or O ring to prolong shelf life? Three guesses, first two don't count.

I found two. Weld-on PVC cement and Gorilla clear pvc cement. Both are $11 and $12 but you don’t need a cleaner, primer and the other worthless tool they are trying to sell. I’ll never buy their crap again.

Then go online and find a real pvc cement and redo all steps
