Great to see Freeman Études in this collection! One of my favorite works for solo violin.

I just adore the Ligeti concerto, especially with Adès’ cadenza, which itself is a mind-bogglingly difficult cherry atop the cake that at one point condenses a portion of the orchestra accompaniment from the first movement on the violin and is so satisfying when you first hear it. I feel like a lot of people have a hard time justifying the difficulty of a lot of post-complexity and modern music in general, but this concerto for me is one of those pieces that justifies its difficulty in its ability to stay engaged and satisfying and responsive in its own choices. It’s one of those works that I couldn’t find a way to make any improvements. Also based Cage.

I think the Schoenberg Violin Concerto is ultra hard, and the great difficulty is you have to make it sound like Brahms - it's a Romantic concerto gone rogue, so you can't hack and slash, except the very few phrases that the composer marks "Feroce". And you have to concentrate for a solid half hour and balance with the very thick and difficult orchestra part, which also has to be played beautifully and cleanly.

Hi Narfen

If you ever make a hardest TRUMPET pieces video, add Stockhausen's Trumpet Concerto (Michaels Reise um die Erde), it's almost an hour-long piece...

The final piece is just a mockery. It doesn't make any sense even considering body language as a compositional material. Simply because music is how our culture sounds like, not how it looks like.

I would put ligetis violin concerto in here, it’s around ginastera concerto difficulty.

At no.1 hardest, (your subjective opinion) but i agree. Like... what the frick is this?? I found the full piece and listened to it, and it is just.. wrong for me. I composed a piece for cello, and it came out interesting, something like that😅😅😅😅, actually not, but pretty similar, (the idea was that the player should place a paper under the 4 strings and all the notes should be played in pizzicato.) The piece is called "supervision". But i don't really understand that piece(no.1 in that list) because at some point, there are techniques, that are completely unnecessary. (Or maybe not, maybe i don't understand this.) I never thought that avant garde, and modern music can go deeper than this. Thank you for the video! It was interesting to see pieces like this, i mean i haven't heard these works so it was pretty interesting for me.
