Now Ramsey, you probably won't see this, but you really don't know the difference between a STREET fight, and a CAGE fight. As someone that has never been in ANY fight, I feel I am much more qualified on these topics, because I've watched 5000 hours of youtube martial arts content. I KNOW what I'm talking about

I love how sometimes you take a simple question and turn it into a half hour philosophy class, and other times you say "beat him to death" for two minutes.

The duality of Ramsey.

I hate that you want me to learn grappling, but you are right. Demetrious Johnson just beat Rodtang by doing just this exact thing.. And I don't think anyone will say Rodtang is a bad striker/fighter.

I'm a pure striker who started grappling about a month ago, it really is more fun than I expected and now i feel much more complete as a martial artist. It even makes me feel much more comfortable in the Clinch. I'm not that technical yet in grappling but knowing where i have to end up and being physically strong surely helps.

I remember the first time i was taken down and beaten to death when i was only doing taekwondo, i instantly asked my friend to teach me Bjj. I somehow managed to survive the death part

Hey there coach, I was wondering if you do any sort of prehab exercises for your knees. I was a recreational powerlifter before i took up jiu-jitsu about half a year ago and I've developed some pretty crunchy knees that crackle and pop quite frequently (no current or prior injuries but still quite concerning).

This is one of my favourite short videos you have done.

I can strike, use takedowns and BBJ.

Being able to understand all the arts and use a blend of many feels like the best way to increase likelihood of success if your technique has quality.

Love you Ramsey D.

Hey, Ramsey. I’ve always been interested in Sanda and loved the concept of a striking battle with takedowns. Can you show us some of the Sanda specific throws that blend well with striking but leaves the fighter standing upright?

Hey coach! Got a question I'd love to hear your thoughts on. I know you've always considered self defense to be a "legal term", however, I was wondering how as a professional MMA coach you would approach dealing with the typical "hockey punch" or any kind of lapel grab plus impact, as I feel it would overwhelm a lot of people in a physical altercation. Would you just stick to the jiu jitsu or judo approach of stripping the opponents grip at their sleeve? Or would you deal with it in any other fashion (i.e. wrist locks, kote gaeshi, waki gatame etc.). Or would you just hit the guy in the end? Would love to hear your thoughts on this or maybe a technique or 2 once lockdown ends in Shanghai, greetings from an Irishman living in Spain!

Martial arts are simple. Put yourself in an area where you're able to beat your opponent. Your opponent sucks at grappling and you don't? Take the fight to the ground. Your opponent can't fight from a clinch and you're an experienced muay Thai fighter? Clinch them.

My trick to beat any fighting style: a shotgun.

I’d like to think that countering each general type of fighting style (striking or grappling) can be comparable to a game of Rock Paper Scissors. One beats the other just as one is beaten by the other. There was this top tier Muay Thai guy who tried an MMA fight and lost because his opponent was a grappler. There was the Black Dragon who was slain by a grappler. It doesn’t take a deer to fight a snake; it takes another snake. That’s how it is with these types of fights. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

If you want to win more often than lose than that is the best strategy. The only strategy really. Khabib, Kamzat, Islam, they show you near perfectly what to do. Most practical and well put advice on fighting I've seen all year.

Hey coach, i don't wear headgear, because like you and a few others have said, it doesn't reduce the brain damage from strikes. I do, however, wear 18oz gloves to make sure i minimally damage my sparring partners. Do the ounces of the gloves matter or is it comparable to headgear, which means it doesn't make a difference?
