Speaking as a lazy front man, counting in songs when the band was chatting or noodling always intimidated me. Videos like this really help to reinforce what we should already know, ha!

I've read the comments below, and I haven't a clue what they are talking about any more than I understand the purpose of moving a marker along a set of numbers. Some people complain I am ahead of the beat, all I know is that my body moves with the music and I don't think about it--I simply move because I can't do anything else but.

So, the time measure is 4/8 and not 4/4, yes? I can't recall the notes from my Music Theory class. I read it as 4/4 at first but counting 8 beats, as shown on the video, makes sense to me.

I'm counting twice as many beats because I'm counting the tis-tis-tis-tis instead. How do you determine WHICH instrument hit is the beat tho?

Can you please explain to what you are tapping? Is it just random or to a specific sound? I’ve watched the video so many times as well as other videos about rhythm and I simply don’t understand how you know when to tap / count.

So, if I am not mistaken. The beat "snare" is 1 beat, followed by tambourine "side-chain" is beat 2 and continues up to 8 beats per measure, correct? I am going back to my music notes and watching videos to practice dancing ballet and choreography while moving to the music.

Most videos i have seen say coubt 1, 2, 3, 4 haven't seen anyone mention count to 8 I'm sure it depends on the beat of course
