Spectacular footage of Iceland volcano eruption

Footage filmed from a helicopter shows a volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland erupting, after weeks of seismic activity prompted the evacuation of a nearby town. In a statement made December 19, Iceland’s government said the fissure opening is almost 4 kilometres long, but the eruption does not pose a threat to life.

I’ve been to Iceland. By far the most beautiful country I’ve visited. Only downside is that everything is so expensive. But it’s worth it.

Amazingly beautiful, the streams erupting into the air, a literal river of fire that is throwing itself into the air along the entire stretch. At the same time, is is a terrifying display of just how much power is within the earth waiting to emerge. This footage would have been an amazing background in the Lord of the Rings movie as Frodo and Sam were in Mordor on their way to destroy the One Ring.

I'm not familiar with the various local areas of Iceland but in this Short it appears to be an uninhabited area. I hope the locals are safe and anyone in potential danger zones in the area that they have all managed to safely evacuate with no casualties. That said, it is an amazingly beautiful sight to behold.

Hey Shawn, I would LOVE TO HEAR HOW THE ERUPTION IS IMPACTING THE POWER(sorry for yelling there) plant, and the blue pool. Is the lavender headed toward the diversion? Do they still have people working on it! My hubby is a retired prof from CWI he developed the information security program the are teaching.
