The doll line based around classic fairy tales was one of the best series I've ever watched. And I'm here to take a long retrospective, analyzing and breaking down everything there is about Ever After High.

Duchess Swan is the next Odette in Swan lake. In the most common versions of Swan Lake, Odette and Siegfried drown themselves. And you know Odile stealing her face.

Something I just realized that I didn’t realize as a child is the fact that there would only be a sleeping beauty at ever after high once every 115 years give or take because she sleeps for 100 years.

Ok, y'all.
I found this show through the *books, * and didn't process that it was a doll line for AGES.

Would recommend them! They're nicely written, Maddie will literally talk to the narration sometimes (which is *much* more jarring on text) and there's a book where she has to take over their job.

Also in those books the Evil Queen is imprisoned because she basically tried to break the banks of her fate and directly conquer everyone else's, and *that got added to Raven's fate* (which she brings up a lot less than you'd think). They kinda bring attention to the fact that what her mom did isn't _entirely_ dissimilar from the rebellion against fate Raven is trying to pull off.

I will NEVER understand why the Mattel canceled Ever After High and Monster High are the most famous shows ever made instead they created Enchantimals that nobody loves... -.-

I always interpreted Duchess’s motivation to be that she wants her story to get a happy ever after. These kids won’t live out the exact stories their parents did, we see that clearly in some of their genders, their dynamics, and especially when we get a peek into Apple and Raven’s destinies. I think they’re meant to live out the retelling of the story, just like how in modern day we have many interpretations of these classic fairy tales (anything Disney ever made, etc). Sometimes characters get happy endings, sometimes they don’t. I think in Ever After High there’s only a select number of characters that can get these happily ever afters, which is where the ranking comes in. If someone falls down the ranks, they lose their claim to a happy ending of their tale. Duchess’s original story doesn’t have a happy ending, and where she falls in the Royal rankings means she won’t get a happy ending unless someone is knocked down. However, we know that there are retellings of her story that give her a happy ending.

TLDR: They’re living out the retellings of classic fairy tales where some retellings get happy endings and some don’t depending on their ranking in this world.

I was CONVINCED as a kid that Giles was so traumatised by the cave or the spell was put on him he was forced to speak in riddles, therefore scaring Milton into believing that only bad things happen when you "go off book." Idk why but even 9 year old me thought the Milton Grimm storyline was weird so I made up my own

Now that there isn’t any competition they should reboot the series. I feel like it would be popular again. The original run was very creative I enjoyed the cartoon a whole lot

i really hope this show comes back, bc the clothes were FIRE. as someone who only ever watched it once with a friend as a joke, i immediately noticed goldilocks’ kid in the background wearing legit elegant gothic lolita fashion, and like??? hell yea???? this show deserved to live longer based SOLELY on how rad the outfits were
