Fun fact: the dancer had won a dance contest in Los Angeles the night before and her prizes were dancing in this video and $200 cash. She didn't see the video until about a year ago. Her name is Lisa and one of her kids came across it on YouTube. ❤️

Rick Derringer was the frontman here. He went on to a successful music career. He had a solo hit in the 70s "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" He also worked a lot with the Winter Brothers - Edgar Winter and Johnny Winter. He produced 'Frankenstein" which you've reacted to by Edgar winter.

This song is performed by The Ohio State Marching Band at every football game when the team is behind in scoring. It's also played by them When marching in parades or from the band building through the streets to "The Shoe" ( the stadium) It's a crowd favorite.. Gets the fans up and cheering.

When we were young...we loved this song. And the dancing...well it's hard to describe. Now in our 70's..we'll still dance to this

Every garage band that existed at the time played this song. The chord progression is very, very common which is why Jay knows it from something else.

I'm so glad there's all these videos for people today to hear the great music that we grew up with and to see young people enjoying it

I loved this song…I can see my 12 year old self playing this record over and over and over in my room while my mom went slowly insane. For years “Sloopy” was my screen name.

Bee Gees – Lonely Days (1970) [High Quality Stereo Sound, Subtitled] will become your #1 favorite Bee Gees song, and that is saying plenty

That singer/guitar player is Rick Derringer, he was Edgar Winter’s guitarist in the videos you watched of ‘Frankenstein’ & ‘Tobacco Road’. He also wrote (and performed) the classic ‘Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo’. He was so expert a player that other guitarists in other bands brought him in to show them how to actually play ideas they had.

The McCoys had a hit with Hang On Sloopy back in 1965. I believe the singer/guitarist, Rick Derringer was like 15 at the time (You probably remember him from The Edgar Winter Group in the early/mid 70s with songs like Frankenstein and Free Ride). This version here was filmed later. I would guess early 70s. Anyhoo this song has been covered by a ton of people (The McCoys version is a cover as well. It was a minor hit the year before in 1964 by the Vibrations). It has been in a million shows, commercials and movies. That is probably where you might have heard it before if not on some classic rock or oldies radio. I don't know about now but back when I was coming up, this song was a standard for every garage band in every neighborhood at one point along with songs like 96 Tears, Wipeout, Twist and Shout, Louie Louie, and later with songs like Stairway to Heaven, Ohio, Paranoid, etc. Great catchy song. Many memories.

I was a kid when this hit the radio & I thought it was "Hang on Snoopy" because I watched Charlie Brown in the 60s. The dancing girl today still looks good! Saw her interview on YouTube not long ago.

It also has the same riff as Summer loving from Grease

If you go out on the net and search for "The Sloopy Girl" you'll find a very interesting story about the girl who was dancing in this video. There was a lot of demand that people know who she was. It took a couple of decades before it was revealed who she was simply because no record was kept of who she was. Her name is Lisa Leonard Dalton. She was picked for the dancing because she had won a dance contest at a local bar. She had never seen the video and didn't even know that people were looking for her. The Song was recorded in 1974 or there about. She finally saw it in 2013.
