In this GitLab Training video, we'll talk about GitLab's preferred method of dealing with branching and merging in git: GitLab Flow. Organizations coming to git from other version control systems frequently find it hard to develop an effective workflow. This video describes the GitLab flow that integrates the git workflow with an issue tracking system. It offers a simple, transparent and effective way to work with git.

The author of this video started out wanting to explain something about Gitlab Flow, but then tricked themselves into thinking they had to explain the basics about branching and merging to their audience, and ended up not talking about what attracted same audience in the first place. Well-intended, but entirely misguided.

Project Management tool + Issue Tracking on the individual tasks + Git Flow = ideal solution. Me thinks you are still missing the project management piece of the puzzle for this to be a comprehensive solution.
