First human to manually land on an alien heavenly body. The magnitude of Neil Armstrong's udertaking goes down in history as the greatest achievement ever.

This is an excellent video. Very informative. And a huge bonus is that there was NO background music.

After some 250.000 odd miles to be off only by that much is quite an achievement.

Awesome work on this video. And the original crew.

Armstrong kept it all together all the way down. That is why we know his name.

Pity Neil Armstrong wasnt here to see this, sure he'd be fascinated. In the days of false and
meaningless hero worship here stood a real hero. I salute you Neil Buzz and Mike.

This is a very well done video that neatly explains why Armstrong had to do what he did. The first thing to notice is that they were already miles beyond the center point of the ellipse. Then, the computer adjusted the landing zone to the bolder field and Neil rightly pushed passed that. Seeing the bolder field from the LRO images really highlights the great luck we had that Neil was flying and not the computer. The coolness that Neil displayed that day was something to behold and the last situation that reminded me of that was Sully landing in the Hudson. The passengers of that flight can thank there lucky stars that Sully was in command and the world was similarly lucky that Armstrong was on Apollo 11 and the commander of the LM.

Niel Armstrong was one very cool customer. Landing on fumes like its no big deal.

Armstrong and Aldrin's footprints will be on the moon for eons while all the deniers will have turned to dust.

and this was done in the 60's which in todays standards was accomplished with the bare minimum of technology. I find that more amazing than anything.

I'm sure that Neil and Buzz practiced for this eventuality many times, but just imagine the stress, skill and intelligence required to revert to manual control and fly 3 more miles past your original landing sight with very limited fuel. Remember, if they burned too much fuel landing, they would not have enough for the launch to rendezvous with the Command module. I think Neil had less than 30 seconds of fuel left when they touched down. These guys, including Micheal Collins, were truly the hero's of the 20th Century!

NASA, you still have your MoJO. And I remember you when we were both kids in the 60's.

Radio signals are directional or line of sight. To receive a satellite signal to watch SkyTV the small dish on your house must be pointed directly at the satellite which is stationed at a
geosynchronous  orbit.  The satellite relays TV signals from a ground station and transmits the signal back down to the earth surface. Everyone knows that if the little dish is moved even slightly the TV signal is lost.
The same goes for the radio signals transmitted from the moon during the Apollo landings.  The signal strength was approximately 20 watts and any country on earth could receive them. There were various large dishes pointed at the moon receiving these signals, Jodrell Bank, Parkes in Australia and Goonhilly down. The Russians were also monitoring the signals using the multiple array antenna dishes at North Station after they crashed their own unmanned Luna 15 lander a few hours before the Apollo 11 Eagle lift off from the moon.
So can someone please explain how the US managed to fake the radio and telemetry data as coming from the moon ?

Great Video. The explanations typed onto the screen help a great deal because otherwise I wouldn't know what they were talking about. Thanks.

Computer chosen place of landing was full of boulders, so Armstrong shut off it, took manual control and landed little further beyond these dangerous boulders with little propellent left for safe ascend.

Neil Armstrong was awesome . The unsung hero was Charles Stark Draper though (Apollo AGC designer) wouldnt have landed or re-docked without his computer

Ignoring all the stupid comments from the tin hat conspiracy nutters here, this is a really cool graphic and shows Neil Armstrong was the right man for the job. Thanks for posting.
