One of my goals is to improve my negotiation skills, and who better to learn from than a former FBI hostage negotiator? In this week’s vlog, I review the book “Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It” by Chris Voss, and I share the one piece of advice that fundamentally changed how I view the art of negotiation -- and in turn has changed every single conversation I have.

This book has definitely changed the way I talk to people during negotiation. Tactical empathy, not asking why questions, the power of no. I have been more efficient in my job utilizing tips in this book.

It's an awesome book...

I used the techniques in this book to see an Instant win in a real world supplier negotiation task for my team.

Thanks Liz for the wonderful review. As a 1st gen college student, I find myself facing many daunting scenarios. I wasn't taught how to face them. Stumbling across your channel has helped me a lot. I appreciate your time to sit down and share your insights.

How good your advice is this week! I read this book last year and it is excellent information on a rather sensitive topic. To dovetail a thought from your video last week, a person negotiates from a center of emotion....or, a center of logic/intellect. The position of logic/intellect will always serve one better while negotiating. Look back at times when we were negotiating and our emotional state was controlling. We had our proverbial hat (or worse....see your website title) handed promptly to us. When our emotions are even, our intellect will take over and serve us far better! Thank-you for the excellent information.

Your content is good. Could I suggest that you should lower the background music as I found myself distrusted with the loud music.

Thanks Liz, I read the book 3 times now in Italian and English and I understood all the teachings, but honestly, I have to recognize that applying those in the negotiation process is very complicated and unnatural
Are you aware of any group training session to which I can participate in order to learn together by everyone's error?
