The best and terrifying part about the dark continent is those 5 aren't all there is, as Netaro let's us, the readers see that he encountered creatures that are exponentially bigger than anything we've seen so far. Just like an ant to a human adults, the dark continent has creatures that makes humans look miniscule.

And don't forget Gings explanation that the world tree they're on is a sapling compared to the full blown adult version which we haven't seen yet.

notice that the 5 threats mention is actually a book name journey to the newworld east edition and all the monsters there are classified as A to A+ threats of the hunter association

and there is another counterpart of that book the west edition and it never revealed it in the public or explored is because the author of that book is still writing and still not finish it. my theory is that in the west edition of the book it contains a lot more terrifying threats like level S to S+ monsters maybe togashi knows whats ahead in the west edition of that book

Spoilers if you haven’t (edit) caught up to the manga or finished the anime:



One of those treasures, the Nitro Rice, might be the key to giving Gon his Nen back. Gon made a vow to use everything he had, and would have, when he fought against Pitou. Sacrificing his ability to use Nen after the battle (and after being healed by Nanika). This removed his Nen and greatly shortened his lifespan. Note: he still possesses super human strength and ability, just no Nen. But if he could increase his lifespan with the Nitro Rice, from the Dark Continent, then technically he would have more than what he sacrificed against Pitou. Which might allow him to use Nen again, or learn to use Nen again.

Ps: I’m assuming he won’t be able to forcefully acquire Nen the second time like he did with Wing. I’m guessing he would have to do it naturally through meditation. Ging also mentions on a phone call with Gon “you probably just can’t see it anymore” implying that there might be a way to get his Nen back. Maybe Nitro Rice is the key? Hopefully Togashi can continue creating HxH so we can see for ourselves.

The dark continent seems like an impossible promise. Something that works better as a mystery. Idk if anyone will ever go there in Togashi's story. But I guess if anyone can pull off some interesting, mind bending, mega planet, with nigh eldritch horrors, it's him.
