8 Days From New York to England – Fun But NEVER Again!

I’ve just disembarked a cruise that I would not choose to repeat and this is the first time I’ve ever said that.

For years I’ve wanted to try a transatlantic cruise, following in the footsteps of the great ocean liners but I’ve always been nervous.

Other things mentioned in the video:

The glamour and the history is definitely something that I wanted to experience but as somebody who gets seasick I wasn’t sure if booking a trip that spent seven solid days at sea would be a good idea, especially as the Atlantic is known for bad weather.

When I saw a very cheap sailing from New York to Southampton onboard the World’s last ocean liner the Queen Mary 2, I decided this would be the best way to make the crossing and probably my only chance of giving it a go.

I knew that in theory there is no ship better equipped to handle bad weather and although Cunard aren’t a cruise line I really suit, I decided it would be worth the trade-off for potentially calmer seas. My parents love cruising with Cunard and this trip has always been on their bucket list so I decided to bring them along.

I knew that this cruise had the potential to go very wrong, if I didn’t like the food, the entertainment or the ship there wasn’t anything I could do about it. If I felt unwell from being at sea it’s not as if I could get off at the next port, because the next port was thousands of miles away.

We would end up having some of the worst luck but I didn’t know that when we pulled up to board the ship at the Brookyln terminal in New York.

Thank you so much for watching, this trip is something I've wanted to do for years. I'm so glad I took it, but it's definitely put me off transatlantics! 😂❤

I was once on the QM2. I was nervous as it was my first ocean crossing. I had a chance to speak to the captain before we set sail. I asked him, “Do ships like these sink very often?” “No, ” he said, “Usually only once.”

18:10 There is a common saying about the stages of seasickness. The first is when you are afraid that you are going to die, the second stage is when you are afraid that you won't die.

I had to tell my suitcases that we are not going on another cruise next year. Now I’m dealing with emotional baggage 🧳🥲.🤣🤣

This looks heavenly to me, no kids, no loud music, only mature people, HEAVEN!

We went on this cruise as part of our honeymoon. We thought it was incredible. I think part of the reason we enjoyed it is that as older adults we don't need constant entertainment.

Emma "I get really seasick, I know, I'll create a YouTube channel all about cruises" 🤣 Absolutely love it 😜

"We did the Titanic trip but in reverse". So you started with a sinking ship but had a glorious ending!

You are really good at reviewing things that are not your taste, but clearly to the taste of others. So many people forget the world is not all exactly like them. I have a coworker who can't even understand driving an hour to do something fun or have great food, while friends and I drove an hour for fast-food fried chicken once in college, and I drove 9 hours each way for a weekend thing last spring.

I wrote the book Peril on the Atlantic you show in the ship’s library at 17.22! Was so excited and amazed to see Cunard have it on board. 😊 I’ve also been very seasick on a transatlantic crossing - not fun at all! x

This is the best Queen Mary 2 voyage summary I have seen - norovirus, digestive biscuits, peril at sea, hygiene bags, sea sickness, rough seas, and wanting to get off mid-ocean - and I still want to go! Thanks!

As far as ocean liners go, the QM2 is probably the most comfortable for an Atlantic crossing, especially in the winter. Her namesake, the original Queen Mary, liked to roll. During one crossing, she hit a wave and rolled almost 45 degrees. Onboard at the time was Paul Gallico, who would remember the experience and repackage it as the novel The Poseidon Adventure.

Being an ex tin-can (destroyer) sailor, I would have loved to be on that cruise. Two hints: if you are inclined to seasickness, make sure that NOTHING in you cabin is moving (hanging clothes, curtains, etc.) also, if your food dish is sliding around, put a napkin under it, and pour a little water on the napkin (slices of bread also work well if you are a sailor).

This is the first cruise I've seen that I think I'd really enjoy! A big stack of books and tea on tap and I'd be perfectly happy for a week!

You have to love an Oscar Wilde play! The man who famously said, "Too much of a good thing is still a good thing." Words to live by.

Kids these days with their seasick and planetariums! When I crossed the Atlantic I did it in canoe with a capybara and a bag of oranges. And when I got to England the Queen met me at the beach and gave me a swig of gin and a big hug!

You Millennials!

I am one of those who loves the movement of the ship. I sleep so well on cruise ships, so much better than I do at home. I am planning a trip across the pond to the UK in the next few years and am seriously considering taking a transatlantic cruise both ways instead of flying. I can happily just sit and read the whole time and just relax. It actually sounds amazing to have a week of where I don't have to cook, clean, work, or do anything other than exactly what I want to do. Moms rarely get that luxury.

That lady basically said "worst food I've ever eaten and they didn't give me enough of it" what a wild review 😂

Emma's cruises are the only trips where I can sit at home, and still get seasick

My wife and I did the crossing last July for her 60th.
The sea was as flat as a millpond every day! We loved it.
