American singer, songwriter and actress Donna Adrian Gaines, known professionally as Donna Summer, was born on December 31, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts. At the age of 8, since she wasn’t old enough to join the choir, she got the opportunity to sing a solo one day. Some people started laughing when they saw her up at the front but, their jaws dropped immediately the minute the first note escaped her mouth. Donna admitted even she was shocked by her own talent. She also recounts that God spoke to her, telling her she was going to be famous.

You know what, Kelly Rowland or Tasha Smith could play her in a biopic of they make one of her. She deserves to be highlighted for her contributions to music💛🌻

After watching this, I believe Mo’Nique even more. Black women only really get their flowers when they pass away. She was inducted into the hall of fame after she passed away. R.I.P. Donna ❤️

Donna Summer is criminally underrated as a vocalist. She deserves to be in the same sentence as Aretha, Gladys, Patti, and Chaka. The only reason is she was pigeon holed as a “disco” artist. Lucky for us, she is just a YouTube or Spotify click away.

Omg! You actually did a video on her! Donna Summer was such an underrated vocalist and trailblazer. She alongside Giorgio Moroder started the Euro Disco and EDM movement. Such a versatile artist gone so soon. I keep forgetting her and Whitney passed in the same year 😢. A beauty. Donna Summer forever ❤️.

Man that Bad Girls album!!! As a kid I use to stare at her albums, her image was so iconic. A shame the whole Disco backlash because her songs are timeless and groundbreaking and still being played and sampled today. Some people thought she was a sexy joke in the beginning then she proved she was a real artist and writer with a voice that could sing any type of music. Thanks for this profile of a pioneer who deserved more.

The day she died I got a text from a relative who knew I loved her. This was right after I had ended a happy Donna Summer listening marathon trance at home. She will never be forgotten 💚

Not quite sure whyy ppl saying she was underrated...There is no way you can play a disco playlist without Donna Summers included in that list. She ruled that frickkin era!!! ...with 3 grammies & many other musical awards including a Hall of Fame under her belt. Thats not underrated in any sense of the word. May this legend R.I.P.

Donna's song "If It Hurts (Just A Little)" might be one of my favorite songs of all time. As a Brown Skinned Girl growing up in the 80's seeing her glamorous album covers really helped me see myself as the star I dreamed of becoming. I agree Kelly would be a great choice for the biopic and it deserves to made well.
