Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising - Review [The start of the next big thing!] (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox, Switch)

The Eiyuden Chronicle series is finally here. A few years ago, the Kickstarter of my dreams appeared. A brand-new IP from the makers of my favorite, Suikoden series. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes had no problems with raising its required funds. In fact, it go there in no time at all smashing loads of stretch goals in the process. One such stretch goal was a companion game. That game is Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a taster. It’s that tasty appetizer that you’re given before the best five course meal you’ve ever consumed in your life…. hopefully. It is not an expansive JRPG experience, full of hundreds of memorable characters, deep lore and an unforgettable story. It is instead, hopefully setting us up, for just that. Rising is like a pre-side quest to next years; Hundred Heroes.

Great game! Way better than expected. It was such a smooth vehicle to deliver a fun story. Fun and simple.

NGL fell asleep a few times at the beginning but after about 9 hours it started getting good and loved the battle system when I got all the party members. Town building was fun too.

I'm currently rocking 67 stamps, have all three party members, and have 16 achievements on PC Game Pass. Quite an underrated AJRPG of 2022 with a God knows how much more support it's mainline successor in Hundred Heroes will receive. Nice video btw!

I supported this release because I totally missed the Kickstarter thing...still wanted to support the devs though. Honestly not expecting a great deal from this but I'm looking foward to starting it.

I'm playing through this now. It's gorgeous!

Yeah, it's light and fluffy, and yeah, its basically a series of fetch quests, but it has a lot of charm. I'm enjoying it and really looking forward to Hundred Heroes.

Excited people are liking this game. I am hoping for a lot from 100 heroes, but for Rising I was expecting to get a lot more mediocre receptions. But everyone seems to be enjoying it and I can't wait to give it a try myself. I downloaded it from gamepass, now if i could only find some free time and pull myself away from Yakuza ike a dragon.

I loved it, minor flaws aside. The characters were a load of fun, and I'm hoping they continue to stick the landing on that and the worldbuilding overall. The upgrading systems seemed like a great prototype for a meatier game, and I wish there were more locales.

I cant wait to play this game fully. Suikoden is my favorite video game of all time. This Bring my childhood alive plus adding voice to the character is really awesome.
I can’t wait to see if their any Suikoden Easter Egg i will be really happy

I just wish the character portraits were a bit larger considering how great they look.

I wish the portraits were bigger, because they were so great and expressive, but I had to squint to see them! The story really didn't grab me or leave me wondering like Suikoden... but the gameplay was snappy and fun, the characters were cool, and the artwork is just beautiful! Heck of a steal for the price.

I grabbed this game but haven't played it yet. I am a bit weary of the 2D-HD because I didn't like Octopath Traveller, and Triangle Strategy couldn't hook me. But I need to remember that Rabbit & Bear is not associated in any way with Square Enix, and just jump in. Your praise of the game in this review does give me some confidence.

Wish it had better animations and effects. Gives me Flash game vibes at times. I really dig the environments and writing, tho.

when ever i see a review like this i wonder if i play the wrong game... The game is repetitive. It doesn't explain how to do certain things to move to the next area if something blocking your way. When you unlock all the characters (after some hours of gaming) gameplay starts to be ok and doing some combos by buttonsmashing is cool. Thank god a played the game on a next gen console and the loading time was fast as hell. I think i would enjoy this game on a Nintendo Switch rather than a PS5.
