Bless you random ancient person for writing down full instructions! No "lamb, prepared in the usual way."

My grandma used to make this for me when I was a kid 4000 years ago. So good!

Oldest recipe in the world and it’s already got garlic and a type of onions. That smell resonates through all of human civilization.

My wife makes this fairly often now, after watching your original video about it. She's substituted various ingredients occasionally and the recipe always holds up. It's definitely an excellent taste of history!

Seems like a kind of stew I would sit down to eat after an exhausting day of getting swindled by a copper merchant

For those that eat this, don't panic the day after and call 911. No, you aren't bleeding internally. It's just the beets.

I hope there is a 5000 year old spirit looking over someones shoulder to wince and whine "ahh no no no, thats not it at

A lot of ingredients our ancestors used to eat are extinct, endangered or are almost unrecogniseable because of selective breeding made both taste and looks completely different.

What’s really interesting is even if we had an EXACT recipe it wouldn’t taste the same.
All of those plants and animals involved- including us- have changed since then, plants especially.

I have your cookbook, Max! My girlfriend got it for me for Christmas! I make it a little weekend surprise to cook from your book for my family and they have liked everything I've cooked. You're such a legend man!

I am sure that awful copper merchant Ea Nasir was eating this too.

I imagine Ea Nasir eating this and reading the complaint tablet like Saul reading Chuck's letter in Better Call Saul.

Perfect timing! I have a huge excess of suhutinnu in my cupboard I was wondering what to do with!

My husband got me your book for Valentine's Day 💘. I'm so excited! And I appreciate the unexpected personal validation of how I write recipes when I give them to people. My method has been used for 4000 years, so bite it!😂😂😂😂

A tasting history restaurant would go so hard

If you think about it, this was likely a common ancestor among all of us, an ancient loving grandma that made sure we had the recipe forever. Love ya Nana

Samudu = polenta
Suhutinnu = a root vegetable (carrot/parsnip)

I've been scrolling and haven't seen what I was hoping to see and upvote so I guess I'll be the first to leave the comment: your pronunciation of those non-English words was SPOT ON. Very casually delivered but that made it all the more startling and impressive.

Idk why but to me, this is one of the prettiest dishes on the channel

As an Ancient Babylonian time traveler, I must say that your pronunciation is on point!
