More than one-fifth of China’s total gross domestic product (GDP) is currently under lockdown, according to a November 24, 2022, report by finance group Nomura. The report also projected the amount of GDP affected by lockdowns would continue to rise in coming weeks as China deals with its biggest Covid-19 case surge since the start of the pandemic.

More like two steps forward and 10 steps backward. Two weeks ago I saw articles on Wechat stating how China is about to increase international flights and stop the circuit breaker approach of canceling flights all the time. The next day Guangzhou had cancelled 90% of flights in and out of the city. This shows that anything mentioning “China opening up” should always be taken with a pinch of salt. They’ve also recently banned new arrivals from entering public venues in a lot of cities.
