I guess Rick Riordan's humour isn't for everyone - I think for me it is actually part of the nostalgia I feel for Percy Jackson because I read that series when I was like 12/13 and loved it (probably as much as Harry Potter) and his sense of humour is one of my favourite things about him. While I didn't enjoy Trials of Apollo nearly as much as his other series, I still had a lot of fun while reading it, it's sort of a guilty pleasure thing for me to read his books because they are easy and fun as I'm not in the mood to read giant complicated fantasy books all of the time and if I want to read something light I'll read Riordan. One of the counter arguments to that whole glorifying Greek gods and turning them into heroes (which I do agree is a bit problematic) is that while some of the information is modified to fit his stories, most of it is correct. Young me knew so much about Greek mythology just from his books (and tbh I still know most of it) and whenever we talked about it in school, the people who had read Percy Jackson knew more than the other people. So I guess you do have to give him credit for making people interested in learning more about Greek and roman mythology :) sure, his books are immature but I think that's what makes it fun to read.

I DNFed Six of Crows. I bought both books together sadly. It has taught me to try and borrow books in a series from the library first and save some cash. Or only buy the first one.

Thank you for some honest reviews. Some of those books/series seem to get automatic good reviews from other channels yet I did not enjoy them as well.

B. Sanderson, VE Schwab, P. Rothfuss, Naomi Novik I can't get into their writing, I don't get it how are they so popular

I totally agree with Six of Crows and Schwab's books. I DNF'd The Archived and didn't really like her shades of magic series. Glad I'm not alone lol

Holy Crap! It is so refreshing to see someone who doesn't like The Six Of Crows duo! Everyone seems to adore them!

I have not read anything I ve Schwab yet but I do have all three of her books on my TBR. I will let you know what I think of them after I read them later.

I'm curious if you object to featuring any and all Greek gods (and probably most of the heroes, too) as they were pretty uniformly rapists at one time or another? Or do you dislike Apollo even more?

I enjoyed the shades of magic series, but I did feel like pacing in book 2 was a problem. It was like a book long training montage for Lilah to get her ready for book 3.

I'm starting to read Six of Crows and I'm only on the 4th chapter and NOTHING seems to make any sense. Im finding it really hard to push through. Do you think i should keep reading on and later on it will make better sense or is the whole rest of the book going to be like this?

You won't be surprised to hear I have no intention to read any of these, just thinking of the genre alone makes them unlikely.. Fun to hear your thoughts on them all.

It's always interesting to see how people's taste are different. I loved the Six of Crows duology. It's my second favorite series of all time. That's the beauty of humans though, we all can have different opinions! :) I have been feeling more skeptical about V.E. Scwab though because her books tend to be very polarizing.

I honestly agree with her for Trials of Apollo and Magnus Chase because I had read the Percy Jackson series and just fell in love with those characters, especially Heroes of Olympus, and felt with these two series that it just wasn’t good enough compared with those series. It just didn’t keep me interested like Heroes of Olympus did

Dear me - I was thinking of gettingThe Book of Bera...Thanks for the warning! I'll try reading the first chapter in the shop first...
Six of Crows and what-not were also on my list...I may still give those a go, but it is interesting you didn't like them.

Speaking of Middle-Grade stuff, have you read James Nicol's 'The Apprentice Witch'? I absolutely loved it. I'm currently working my way through Maz Evan's 'Who Let the Gods Out', which is quite funny.

Thanks A lot for sharing these thoughts! I saw many super hyped books in this video 😂 I don't read a lot of fantasy ( but I like watching you talking about them lol) so didn't know if these book would work for me. But I adore your honest opinion of them :D

You've touched on audiobooks in the past. Any chance you can touch on that in the future? Audiobooks are the only way I consume books. No one else I know is in to em.

Can we be best friends. I hate Leigh Bardugo's writing, I just don't understand the hype behind her. I tried reading VE Schwab and I couldn't get into it. I was going to read Rick Riordan but after hearing your thoughts, I'm not going to waste my time. You're the second person that talks about Lock Lamora, I've got to check that series out. Lol 😁

I did not dislike the Six of Crows duology, though I do think it's not like the masterpiece everyone seems to think it is. During Crooked Kingdom I actually kept thinking, how Lies of Locke Lamora handled similar themes, and that's actually not a good thing that you keep zoning out of a book and thinking about a better book. But that said, I think I'm just not the demographic to fully enjoy SoC of CK.

Is it weird I like to hear people talk negatively about books I liked?
