I get asked what the good commentaries are, who the good pastors are, best Bible resources, etc. And while I share those references all the time, this video addresses how to discern if something is heresy or not.

Friends, this is such a big topic I had to do a longer video but even this didn't even truly scratch the surface. BUT I hope this helps and gets your brain brewing! :) Sending a big hug <3

This is why I think every church that can pull the resources together, should have a church library.

Pastor's wife here and I appreciate the breakdown you give. I would add to take everything back to the Bible. It is the inspired, inerrant word of God and if someone or a resource is saying something that goes against what God has given in his Word, red flag!! So many wolves in sheep's clothes preach Jesus is God's Son BUT downplay sin, discredit the Bible, etc. If they aren't teaching all of the Bible is trustworthy, run away!

I am a Baptist and we were brought up to learn the differences in the denominations. What we are believe, what we have in common, what are the differences. Even though we might not 100% agree, we are to respect others and not fight over religion. So I agree what you are saying.

And then you "had the audacity..." LOL! Thank you for having such audacity :) I love and appreciate your content. <3

Girl. You're saying all the things I've been thinking. And I can't say them in the church either, cuz I'm a woman. I prayed corporately ONE time and people lost their minds over it. Pastor's wife here too. And I bring questions no one wants to tackle. My ideas are shot down before they're fully out of my mouth. Keep doing what you're doing. I LOVE THIS CHANNEL so much <3 Thank you for making me feel understood and not alone in this battle.

To your point -at @4:40, I have a friend who seems very skeptical/concerned of reading anyone not recommended by her pastors. I once mentioned a Christian mother’s book that I was reading and that I can say was biblically solid (“M is for Mama”), and she asked me if my pastor recommended/approved of it… it’s just not reasonable to assume your pastor(s) would be reading every book you’re interested in much less a Christian book on being a mother… I told my friend that when I read a book, I don’t just absorb and adopt every viewpoint of the author, and that I’m responsible for measuring it against Scripture. Her point was that as you read, you’re gaining confidence in the author so it could be harder to be critical/discerning of the author’s words. My response to that is that that happens with our own pastors. Nobody has their theology completely error-free but that doesn’t mean we don’t have the liberty to read someone who we don’t agree with 100%.

As a father of young daughters it’s so heartwarming to see a young lady like yourself following Christ and being a good example for our daughters.

I have had the same experiences over the years as you growing up in the south baptist churches. You have obviously been gifted with discernment, thank you for sharing.

This video makes me appreciate my pastor even more. He encourages discernment and he knows people can preach out of bias. He will say look in the bible and reminds us to always go back and review and study what has been preached

Hi Faith. When you got to the 9 minute mark, I was imagining a loud bell going "DING! DING! DING!" You are so right. Yes, we do need to step out in faith and trust in the leading of the Holy Spirit and we do need to put our brains to work by studying the Word of God.

Fantastic teaching! Not enough ministry's cover the creeds at all anymore. These foundational principles should be taught to every believer. Keep up the great work!

So glad you shared this! I've been in ministry for 25 years and just today I was at a second-hand book store and found a book that looked interesting, but I wasnt sure, because I didnt know the author...Google here I come! I looked him up and found that he was a great man of faith!! Very wise words today! A pastor should empower his flock. I came from a Church of Christ family, but was saved in a Southern Baptist and totally understand what you're saying about leaders who don't want their congregation to seek out knowledge and understanding from anyone but them. God bless you honey, you're always such a blessing!!
P.S. You keep sharing your opinion sweetheart! Hugs!!❤️‍🔥🙏❤️‍🔥

Great advice, Faith. I, too, grew up in a denomination that highly discouraged questions about anything that it did not hold as truth. Your identifying the benchmarks of Christian orthodox beliefs is so helpful to your viewers. God bless!

Honestly, wonderful video!! Wow !! I’m Catholic, and I have never had the creeds broken down as well as you have. And as a Catholic, I have heard so many priests not talk about it appropriately. Thank you!

@4:30–THIS!!!! This is what I’m dealing with now at my age, because I’ve never had to question or examine what I believe because everyone had my same background. Now that I’m starting to go to a church that has the basic belief, but it looks different. And I was getting so caught up in this “is this right? Should we be doing this?” And here we are, chapter 2 in Ephesians, and the question is, “you’re so worried about the outward and what does your heart look like?” 😮 Message received, Lord. So now I’m doing the study that I should’ve done growing up.

I’m older than you and I’m learning so much from you. The Lord has blessed you with great teaching. I love that in our time God has blessed us with so many tools to learn more about Him! And you’re one of his tools I use 😊
