Thank you so much for dropping your profound common knowledge. I can’t believe no one told me leprechauns aren’t real until I was 40

Patrick was from modern day Wales, his father was a Britanic official of the Roman Empire. After escaping slavery in Ireland, he joined the Christian Church. The Church, not the Empire sent him back in order to achieve what previous clergy had failed to do, bring Christianity to Hibernia. His big advantages were that he spoke the local languages and understood the culture. There is no record of him having military support of any kind.

We were taught in schools, that St. Patrick was a Welsh man, kidnapped by an Irish Clan Leader, and brought to Ireland to Shepard sheep, He some How escaped, but returned years later to convert the pagans to Christianity, explaining the Holy Trinity, by using the three leaf shamrock ☘️

Let it suffice to say that this guy has taken some liberties with the historical record.

He was also captured as a young man and enslaved in Ireland, was able to escape and went back home. Only later to return and drive the “snakes” from Ireland.

He is totally manipulating and leaving way too much out of the story

Even if this is true, St. Patricks day is ABSOLUTELY about Irish pride!

Love from Ireland 🇮🇪 where us pagans still don’t allow any empirical tyranny to destroy our ancient heritage.

Getting rid of Druidism and heresy was a saintly act.

St Patrick was an English boy captured and taken to Ireland as a slave, the adder, a mildly poisonous snake. It was native to Ireland and can still be found in Britain. In fact, 20 miles from where I live, you can still find Adders in the woodlands

Sure, many believe "driving the snakes from Ireland" was another way of saying "brutally killing or driving out pagans". And it's also well known that St. Patrick wasn't Irish... He was Romano-British and was brought to Ireland after being captured as a slave by Irish pirates.

But this guy goes off the rails into Ireland being the "last group" of pagans during St. Patrick's time in the 5th Century... The Lithuania region was largely pagan until deep into the Middle Ages.

Finally, there was no religion in Ireland called "The Serpents" that anyone knows about. The pre-Catholic religion of Ireland, like that of many neolithic and calcolithic cultures, didn't have any formal name. Naming a religion is definitely a very recent trend in human history and really only applied to religions actively practiced when names started getting handed out, even older ones like Hindu.

Didn't ruin it for me. I make an Irish meal every year to remember the Irish who came before me. I wouldn't be me in America without them.
