this is probably stephanie's smartest and most creative story telling to date. how she constantly referenced the book to the real life eventualities was amazing.

The whole video I was wondering why Shu wasnt just hired to be the lawer for the company instead of being head of the Three Body Project. I feel like 100% of the problems started there

Your sidekick/partner (sorry, i don’t know his name) is just PERFECT for the role. He has a calm, soothing, empathetic voice, asks good questions, isn’t overly talkative yet when he does, his remarks and reactions always appropriate — he’s a keeper

WHAT THE FUCK. Also! Are we going to just gloss over the fact that his influencer mistress showed up with a baby?? I need more details LMAO

When I watched 3 body problems, I was never expected a murder to be linked to it. Even though the show/book is already eerie enough, the murder makes it even more.

Ms Mango, you've outdone yourself with this one. The way you wove the 3 body story into the actual events was expertly done. Brava.

There’s so much greed in this story. Starting with that couple then the lawyer and the ceo, it’s sad to see the lengths ppl will go to for money

I read the translation of 3 body problems 2 to 3 years ago. I also watched the Chinese series on the book last year which surprisingly has low views on YouTube. The most interesting thing about this book is that instead of explaining more about the extraterrestrials, it talks about humanity and human relations. The book is more on human nature and what we believe in rather than the extraterrestrials. Humans with so many flaws yet has a lot of potential for growth.

I kept wondering why Lin didn’t fire Shoo, then remembered Shoo is a great lawyer, so he probably wrote a golden parachute or some amazing severance into his contract

never thought I'd see 'netflix' and 'murder' in the same sentence

Little correction: The Santi aren't 400 "Lightyears" away, they are 4 lightyears away. Which is why it takes 8 years to send and receive a message via Radio signal, which travels at the speed of light (because it is light at a certain wavelength). The Santi can't TRAVEL at the speed of light, only at 1% of it, so it takes them 100x as long as the message takes transmitting.
Otherwise great narration

In my opinion, Lin should never hire Shu to make the show. He's a lawyer and never involved in the filming industry. At least hire him as an advisor. That is actually the first problem.

I really wanted to read the book first just to see if Netflix do the story justice.

I think Netflix kind of ruined the 3 Body Problem. They made it about just the West again, whereas the Chinese version included all major countries. The West tend to make it just about Americans, British and so forth and exclude everyone. The 3 Body Problem is a philosophy that Lin Qi embodies, its about giving everyone a chance to succeed, whereas the West is only about the success of their allies but no one else. The philosophy behind the books / comics have the potential to allow our world to work together, its almost an analogy of what the West did the moment they decided to conquer Non-European countries when gunpowder was discovered. You see again the series being ruined by the West, a destruction of what is unknown and what is feared.

Hey there, nice video!
I just want to clarify something that I think is very important and that you unintentionally wrongly explained about the dark forest hypothesis. It’s not really a “shoot first, apologize later” philosophy like you explained, but more a “the less you show, the better it is” philosophy.

According to the dark forest hypothesis, most civilizations come, at some point in their development, to the realization that they have absolutely no idea how an encounter with another civilization would go. And, that uncertainty and fear of the unknown grows so strong that most civilizations decide to evolve “in silence” and not intentionally signal their presence to the world (or the universe to be more specific).

So, it’s not really about killing whoever you encounter on the spot but more about making sure that whoever is out there (if there is anybody) stays clueless about your existence in case they are stronger or technologically more advanced than you and have bad intentions towards your species. In the end, the core idea/emotion behind this theory is not the intrinsic desire of every species to kill others but the primal fear of every civilization to go extinct.

I think this hypothesis, along with the great filter theory, is one of the most convincing and interesting approach to answer the Fermi paradox.
