As someone who sews with a machine, I can tell you that Theres not a lot to be afraid of :)
The most common way someone can get their finger caught (at least what my teacher told me) is if you try to thread the needle while the machine is still on, and you accidentally step onto the foot thingy (I forgot the name, but it’s the thing that makes the machine sew)
As long as your fingers are in a reasonable distance from the needle, and you’re paying attention when you’re sewing, you shouldn’t have any accidents :)
(Also, I’m a very clumsy person who makes a lot of mistakes, yet I’ve never caught my finger in the machine before. So if I can sew with a sewing machine, you can too :D)

I USED TO BE HORRIFIED OF THOSE THINGS WHEN I WAS A KID NOW I LOVE THEM 😭😭 if it helps at all your finger cant get stitched unless you deliberately shove it under the needle, the presser foot will stop your finger from getting too close if you arent paying attention to where your hands are. also the speed is controllable with the foot pedal so just press super lightly and go slow!
