After his transformation into the dark lord, Vader shunned personal relationships and attachments. This was likely not too difficult as Vader viewed many of his imperial comrades as incompetent cowards. However, there was one imperial officer named Erv Lekauf who came very close to being Vader's friend. Vader respected the Imperial lieutenant's bravery loyalty and family values, a trait absent in most other imperial officers. Unfortunately, Lekauf was burned to the point of near-death during an encounter with rogue force-sensitive stormtroopers. However, in a rare act of kindness, Vader used the force to keep him alive and allowed him to retire as a stay-at-home dad once he recovered.
