In the Bay area-California, fall temperatures are pretty mild, so generally no major changes in outwear. However, as the days get shorter, a headlamp is a must for those early morning runs. I've been using the Petzl Iko core for the last year. For me, its an indispensable safety item to see and to be seen. Yeah, this item is no stranger to this channel with Seth wearing his headlamp on nearly every video, but it's MY must-have for fall running...

Definitely a vest. If I can get away with a long-sleeve base layer and a vest to keep the wind off my chest, I find that often I will be more comfortable than wearing a full jacket.

A must have for me is gloves, either knit if warmer or convertible if cooler. My hands get cold fast! I consider fall weather anywhere from 5°C to 15°C (41-59°F), where I need a long-sleeve instead of a t-shirt. Below about 10°C I will switch to thin tights or calf sleeves instead of shorts.

So much consumerism on this channel. I'm not one of those minimalistic people, but holy moly every time I come here it always feels like "buy more stuff! buy buy buy!"

: Must have gear for fall running (Saskatchewan 0*C-15*C) has to be two things, my Salomon Outrack mid layer and Salomon Bonatti shell. Depending on the weather temp, wind, rain, snow, those two layers get it done in every condition.

This comment relates to the Monday mail bag livestream that you posted. My daughter is in a speech class and kind of shocked me when she chose to do her speech on the benefits of running. I started running about five years ago at age 36. I started 1 mile a day Doing 1 tenth a mile each day until i was run 5 miles a day.. frome there i took off. I ran my first 100-mile race taking first place this past June. the hellhole 100 in South Carolina on June 6th. I stopped drinking shortly after I started running. prior to my running I had depression and drank daily. I also suffered with allergies and occasionally would have to have use of an inhaler. MyHealth is so very much different than it was previously. When I went for my annual checkup my doctor said that I have a negative heart risk factor. I'm seldom if ever depressed now. running daily has given me a goal that I can achieve. I couldn't begin to tell you the health benefits but even more beneficial for me and my family has been the emotional abd mental well being running has provided. Running has really changed my life. Thanks for all you do encouraging and inspiring us all to turn that doorknob daily.

QD: For Fall I feel that I want my thorso and neck protected… but my arms don’t need as much warmth. This is why I recommend short sleeve vests over light jackets unlesss it is raining. In early Fall I use a Salomon nylon vest, then when temperature drops below 45F (8 C) I use a Marmot vest made of Driclime, a thin and light fleece fabric which I love for its versatility. Today it was 55F (13 C) with a light rain and I used my Gore Windstopper jacket. That fabric is available in many thicknesses… but I have a version that feels like a thin but robust nylon. In terms of shorts, I love the Patagonia Endless run short. It is a little warmer and offers great side pockets where my phone fits in perfectly and never bounces. Seems like Patagonia will discontinue this model… Only XL left at 50% off on their website. Sad…

I'm quite envious of your closet just for running gear!

My best piece of fall gear is a very lightweight Northface half zip pullover. The front torso is wind proof, arms and back are light and breathable. The front zipper can be unzipped from the bottom or top. Thumb holes in the sleeves are a bonus. Wind is the biggest factor around here at the Illinois / Wisconsin state line.

:qod: I’ve got a wind vest from my bike racing years that is awesome on late fall/winter runs ( doesn’t get too cold in Atlanta). It’s very breathable on the back, has a large zipper pocket on the lower back that’s perfect if it’s gets too warm for the beanie or gloves and has multiple reflective sections so great being seen on the low light runs. As for the glasses, hard to beat Goodr’s. Low cost, polarized lenses that are much cleaner than you would expect for the cost and fun colors. If you loose them or scratch them, no sweat as they’re cheap!

Fortunate in Auckland NZ. Long sleeve or not is my winter clothes choice. Summer is T shirt or singlet. Thats it.
