This is rather simple 2D projection technique with fake name "hologram" attached to this! No 3D, no stereoscopy, no parallax effect...

By definition hologram is "a three-dimensional image". What you have here is just a reflection on flat surface.

Isn't this how Disney makes the "ghost room" of dancing people... like way back in the 80s. And they are charging $70 to $110 per ticket to see Roy Orbison .. really ?

OK, everyone giving the whole "Vocaloid did it first" speech, Vocaloid concerts are a rear projection light diffusion hologram, what they're using here is called "Pepper's Ghost" a technology and illusion that dates back to Shakespearean times, and was even used in the first production of Hamlet.

hologram
/ˈhɒləɡram/
noun
a *three-dimensional* image formed by the interference of light beams from a laser or other coherent light source.

Hologram is a *3D* projection not a *2D* projected image.

That stuff is incredible. I remember the first holographic video game called “Time Traveler” . If I am not mistaken, it came out in the early 1990’s...around 93 I think. It was impressive even though the characters in the game were about 4 in high on the screem

You can still see it's a hologram. It's almost perfect, but not quite. You could even say it's a Parker hologram.

I went to the Whitney Houston hologram concert and it literally looked like she was really on stage. Technology is amazing!

now that I know how it works, it isn't so impressive, more like a visual trick than actual technological advancements

Years ago my dad found a Halloween DVD that had us propping our CRT TV pointing upwards (actually, we put it in our hope chest) at our front window and placed a slanted large piece of plexiglass above it. The DVD showed a series of humorous crystal ball character heads to the outside, with audio. Then when we finally got sick of that, later at night we would watch Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy on it. It was pretty cool, though just a simple reflection of course. But it was also kind of ridiculous because of our CRT displays at the time. lol

You only have to see the floor as the Image rises to see that it is flat. I imagine that if you are unfortunate to get a seat at the side at one of these shows, it probably looks abysmal - or maybe that's why they charge so much, because half the seats are unusable to maintain a convincing illusion.
