NATO leaders have wrapped up two days of talks in Brussels, making a start on drafting the West's first integrated defense strategy since the Cold War.
Initial steps prompted by the war in Ukraine include agreement on protecting vital undersea cables and pipelines. Several NATO members have also pledged more military assistance for Ukraine. But differences remain over increasing overall defense spending, and expanding the alliance. There will be no invitation for Ukraine to join the alliance. Kyiv will be offered a seat on a new NATO-Ukraine council.

NATO urgently needs to put adding a procedure for member expulsion on the agenda. If an overwhelming majority of members think that some member is no longer sharing interests with the group or is hostile towards other members or undermining regional security in some way, then they should be be able to eject the member country.

There certainly does need to me an amendment to the NATO legalities - there should be a vast majority vote in favour of a new member, as opposed to 100%. This is true democracy, and protects NATO from selfish countries who may just have a grudge against a candidate.

She's lying about Ukraine feeling like they got a stab in the heart because they knew NATO couldn't and wouldn't accept them as long as they were engaged in a current war. So accepting them now would basically be NATO declaring war on Russia and going into battle within the next few months after Ukraine is officially accepted into NATO. So it's no way Ukraine felt disappointed they weren't going to be voted in NATO

The reluctance to invest in millitary defense could deter NATO from being able to help a nation without a defense. To be a NATO member is to defend our own borders and to be equipt to defend our fellow NATO members. And to do that we have to invest more than we have the last decades after the cold war as we now face a period even worse than the cold war. To be fully protected by NATO, every NATO member must be able to defend them selves and the others in NATO. Then we are superior and will deter any hostile nations from any attack.

It is fortunate that the USA is such a great provider of equipment and funds to Ukraine.

Asking NATO to protect under-sea cables is like asking the fox to protect the chickens.

The west should also make a non-stop message of thanks to Putin for waking up NATO from a long sleep.

FYI, Turkey was the first country to support Ukraine with advanced weapons and drones when the other Europeans counties were sending helmet and underwear.

Would be better to meet for peace negotiation. Send diplomats instead of weapons.

Defense? It never has been the littlest thought of defense in NATO. Maybe on the name to confunde people.

Good to know that NATO decided to protect underwater infrastructure from the Americans.😄

Anyway, that's all just pointless theatrics.
