Why Amorim MUST SIGN New Wing-Backs | Tactical Analysis

Manchester United lost away to Wolves 2-0. In this video I'm going to cover one of the main issues United and Amorim are currently facing, which is a lack of attacking quality in the wing-back positions. Covering Dalot's inability to attack 1v1, playing safe passes throughout and lack of attacking intent in the final third.

Exactly. Biggest problem that has been consistent is that our Wing backs (minus amad) don’t run into space or they cut back in and slow the play down. No balls driven across the goal, no passes into the box. Nothing. Kills everything.

I think Amad should continue playing the wingback spot coz he's the only creative winger an also good defensively. He also good on 1v1

Amorim should stop playing inverted kind of plays. Those players cutting inside from the sides are really slowing the attack; gives the opponent enough time to think and defend

How is it possible a Club like Manchester United still don't have a decent fullback it's reckless

Mount going down hurt us a lot. Amorim wanted him to play the 10 as he doesnt trust Zirkzee and Garnacho. So with Mount down Amad is playing the 10 instead of playing out wide hurting our creativity. We need a lw, 10, and st sooner than later.

Wolves using the same formation but they aren't using inverted attackers. They are very direct and that's the difference

Why not play garnacho then?
Why not try antony there too?
Put your best players in areas of threat.

I think he should have kept maino in the bench, play bruno deep and play garnacho as an inside 10 next to dalot

Dalot can invert while garnacho takes the wing back role....
It also helps dalot return if he is not recovering from opposition box but from a no. 10 role.

Mazraoui does not also offer a threat, play him RCB and play antony as rightwingback...

I agree we don't have players but we shot ourselves

LWB is the position Amorim should highly prioritize, maybe in the meanwhile shoehorning Antony in that position. Dalot offers zero contribution presently, he tends to come in on his right foot, it’s flat down that flank. All players don’t take on the right back to get to the byline

Great analysis, keep up the good work! Do you think Amorin will move Amad back to wing back or does the lack of suitable players for the 10 positions make that a non-starter? Also, Garnacho has not shined in those inside forward positions so he may make better use of the space given to our wingbacks if he can be trusted on the defensive end. Amorin has his hands full, it will be interesting to see how he tackles the dire situation the club finds itself in but a few key moves in the January transfer market and hopefully we will see some progress towards the end of the season.

wing backs are a priority in this coming transfer window

Both wolves and spurs have deliberately left dalot unmarked out wide knowing he would cut inside slowing the play allowing them time to recover. Teams used to do the same with wan bisaka knowing he wasnt a threat on the ball. If amorim doesnt address this quickly it could become his undoing before its even started. The sending off any left footer would take that ball onto their left foot and attack the full back in a 1v1

Hopefully we see garnacho play the left side cam role with bruno suspended as the 2 of them can rotate when in and out of the ball providing us with a threat on that left side. If you are going to have a 1v1 position you want someone who can beat a player

I actually been thinking that Alt-Nouri would fit Man Utd pretty well, since the season started and I'm not even a United fan (Liverpool fan here) just a random amateur tactical analyst. He might be a standard wing back, but he knows how to run pass his marker and cross, he also has speed.

Great analysis. Dalot is totally not good enough

I really hope they give Antony a shot at LWB. At this point, what do they have to lose

At least the solutions are fairly straightforward. Buy some good wingbacks.

Surely Amorim knows why it is not working and has put in his orders for the January nobody really believes he will get the players he wants....Ten Hag got nothing

Anybody that watches United will know just how Dog Dalot is on the left, he completely kills the game being there, if a fit Luke Shaw was playing there for example, United would be so much more fluid and productive there, funny how ineffective he is there but they keep prioritizing attacking on the left. Dalot is not technically component to do well there

I think Mazraoui would be a competent wingback on the right, but the problem is more complicated, as I will try to explain:

1. Amorim hasn’t had the time to implement his system to an acceptable level where every player knows his role well and every player has an established role in the team.

2. Mazraoui has mainly played as RCB, then LCB and only recent as a RWB and he hasn’t had the time to build playing relations with the no. 10 on his side and with the other players in his close vicinity.

Relations like when to underlap, when to overlap, who’s the striker (Hojlund or Zirkzee), what is he gonna do, is he gonna make the run for a poaching move (Hojlund) or is he gonna arrive late (Zirkzee), etc.

Mazraoui is very competent going forward, he can easily beat his man and could be extremely effective if he knew he would only play in that position and he knew who are gonna be the players around him (no. 6/8 and no. 10 on the right side). But right now everything is chaotic and he’s mostly used as a RCB.

I also think Dalot could be as effective as Mazraoui but played on his natural side, on the right. He can actually cross the ball well with his right foot, can dribble and has the ability to beat his man and he would be more natural overall on the right.

Both of them are being played out of position in this system, neither are natural wingbacks, neither are CB and neither are inverted wingback. However, I think they both could develop into good RWBs if they were to be played only as RWBs.
