On a carrier for 3 years, nights in a jet squadron working on deck during launches and repairing jets. Working after flight ops ended up on deck, was the most quiet place you could imagine sometimes and really really dark. Best time ever!

I'm a Navy veteran....seabees 85'-92'
Never saw a ship...looking back I wish I did. My job was a heavy equipment operator. My job was just that! A job!
Carrier duty is an ADVENTURE! The things a sailor sees during a deployment can be jaw dropping! A floating airport!, c'mon, how cool is that?👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲

My nephew put in his time on the Nimitz in the Persian Gulf. Could not be more proud of him.

most of the birthing (where people sleep/shower) is on the deck below the flight deck. One can hear the engines, the jet blast deflector clanking, the arresting cable catching incoming jets....its noisy, but I could sleep great because usually I was so tired....loved it...

Like living in a factory. Nothing is soft and anything you bump into will hurt you.

Loved my time living aboard aircraft carriers, the travel, the the brotherhood, the adrenaline fueled rush working flight ops. My hearing loss & tinnitus remind me of life on the roof. I was honored to call the carrier home.

When I was on TAD onboard the USS Constellation, I watch flight deck ops. This amazing fighter jets turned into very menacing and ferocious flying dragons. Anyone who gets in their way will turn into nothing more than a memory. So we say that the Navy doesn’t open a can of woop ass. We open a 50 gallon drum of woop ass. When the enemy see us coming, all they can say to their buddy is “Please tell my family I love them.” 😊😊

CAStout, are you from the Wagner group? These men and women are aware that they are not in their homes. They are serving their country!

I was a submariner, so I can't speak to living conditions and noise, but I do know for a fact that the "S-3" Viking was retired from Navy service SIX years ago!

When I was a kid my father was on the CV-42. FDR. I went on a dependants cruise. From Norfolk, VA. to Mayport, Fl. It was 4 days. Three nights. My father was a senior chief and his captain sent him and seven other chiefs ahead of the ship and rounded up 40 boys and met the ship in Norfolk. It was something I will never forget. I was the assistant ship photographer for a few days.
