This was much easier to digest than the 30 minute Dan Worrall video, thank you. That one is a master class, and I just need the Aliasing 101 class.

Nice! A really brief explanation.
I only would like to add something: That harmonics that "bounce" into the audible frequency are not done on purpose by the daw, it's a result of frequencies going above the sampling speed (actually the half), it's like when you record the wheel of a car with a camera and you see that goes forward and then backwards, it's becouse of the missing samples between one and the next.

8 years later and this is still the best aliasing related video out there

I'm smiling while watching this. Easy to understand explanation of such ubiquitous concept in audio. Thanks for sharing.

Best video I have ever seen about aliasing. I would love to see a similar (short and easy to understand) video from you guys about intermodulation distortion.

Thanks for this. I always thought that audio aliasing was something different. more akin to aliasing in images, where the edges are too sharp. I thought it would be the effect you get when you don't dither.

Quality explanation. I oversample my thanks.

Great video, I had been trying to understand what was happening when aliasing occurred. Thanks for keeping it in layman terms.

Great video. Thank you. But how to eliminate your aliasing distortion when your either distortion or limiter plugin has no up (over) sampling mode? Thank you.

Great video! Can you please, make similar video using sine wave of frequency under 100Hz? This would make much better point, about why this is so important.

Any plug in that is not aware of the sample rate of the system environment in which it is working AND fails to properly take measures to prevent the creation of spectral components that would create aliasing (at least by using a low pass filter at the final stage before plugin output) is a poorly designed plugin IMO.

Excellent video, very clear explanation.

Great video and explanation. But why aren't plugins that introduces aliasing using oversampling by default?

Damn, this analyzer is amazing! Unfortuantely the M plugins don't work on my laptop. Is it because of WIndows 7 or because my laptop is about 13 years old? Anyway, it sucks . . .

thanks a lot, this helped me a lot with a college assignment :)

I wish all plugins were 96khz by default, and then have the 2x or 4x additional options. I don't know many plugins that I'd rather use 44khz or 48khz mode..
