Bates was the addition they didn't know they needed in the house.

I don't know how O'Brien finds time to do her actual job when she makes it her duty to spy and report on her colleagues. Such a miserable woman.

Ironically, it was O’Brien— that despicable schemer— who undermined Cora’s hopes for a fourth child. I am disappointed that O’Brien never got an unhappy ending. She was one of the few who did not go through any struggle or heartbreak throughout the series. So unfair.

In the early episodes, Cora came off as such a snob!

Cora was super nasty here. I think it was the only time she acted like this.

It's interesting because later Matthew ended up being "crippled" and a similar conversation was had.

Cora put too much faith in O’Brians gossip!
In the end it was O Brian who was responsible for killing Cora’s only boy child and the heir to their estate

Personally, Cora acting this way is her way of admitting why she likes having O'Brien around.

O'Brian was trouble from the beginning and jealous. She should have been fired the 1st time they caught her making trouble.

That nastiness was quite uncommon coming from her!

Sometimes I don't like Cora very much.

O'Brien was a mischief maker. A very nasty woman.

Cora in the early seasons was very snobbish and downright cold at times. Easy to see where Mary got it from. Robert was the sane voice who showed compassion. As the seasons go on, we see a reversal of their characters with Cora being presented as a down to earth progressive American and Robert as a rigid aristocrat.

O’Brien was a snake. Why Cora never saw it amazed me. And this ugly scene was not at all like her. Very out of character for her.

When O’Brien walked out, I wonder if Cora questioned the things the maid had said?

This is why I don't like Cora's character she doesn't understand despite her claims otherwise and shows no empathy.

Well I can understand why the servants would be annoyed by Bates coming in and getting one of the top jobs especially those that had been there a while.. I was never too fond of Bates myself.

I like Cora's character but she wasn't perfect.

Really what right does Cora have to question him for who he employs?? She was being downright nasty in this scene.

Servants don't exist in modern war, Cora. You bleed and die beside those people, and stupid social laws bend until they break.
