Bricklayer here, i worked at a house where an old couple had spent their entire married life. Their daughter had to clear it out and sell it to pay for their care home fees. Both her parents had gone into separate care homes :(. The weather was cold and the daughter told me to come inside for my lunch to use the kettle and have a warm up. I had a look at the bookshelf there was a small unusual looking book so i had a look. It was a book of poems and declarations of love they had written to each other with knotted pieces of fabric and other small items among the pages. They had been together since they were young teenagers. It broke my heart to think of them in separate care homes.
I didnt mention the book but i left it out on the table. Care homes are no place to die, sometimes you dont have a choice and social services will take your loved ones and place them in care regardless of your wishes. To avoid this you need power of attorney over health and well-being as well as financial poa.

I forgot just how good that wee guitar solo is in this. Kinda think this one is sleeping and will emerge as a world contender classic at some to have such quality lost up your sleeve somewhere while other stuff is going on.

The music The Big Push write (or cover) is excellent. The original pieces, like Precious, are reminiscent of the creative flair of pop/rock in its heyday a few decades ago, and give an ‘old guy’ like me (57 and counting) faith that contemporary music does still have places to go. Precious" sounds incredibly tender, fragile and melancholy.
This song is about parting, about the impossibility of being with a loved one. But still, "Precious" is one of the brightest, pacified songs in the album.
