Apollo 13 Views of the Moon in 4K

Показать описание
This video uses data gathered from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft to recreate some of the stunning views of the Moon that the Apollo 13 astronauts saw on their perilous journey around the farside in 1970. These visualizations, in 4K resolution, depict many different views of the lunar surface, starting with earthset and sunrise and concluding with the time Apollo 13 reestablished radio contact with Mission Control. Also depicted is the path of the free return trajectory around the Moon, and a continuous view of the Moon throughout that path. All views have been sped up for timing purposes — they are not shown in "real-time."

I can't believe how many people don't understand what the word "Recreate" means.

The amazing sights from a country that was given a mission and succeeded in accomplishing it. The U.S. NEEDS to go back there!

"Once Earth was finally back within sight, the astronauts were able to reestablish radio contact with Mission Control." and just to think that, that sight is the furthest distance our species have ever ventured out away from home.

This is so awesome! I'm so glad that we finally have something like the lunar reconnaissance Orbiter and the talented people that create videos like this! Can't wait to see the real thing filmed again!

Wow, absolutely stunning! Felt like I was a member of Apollo 13 for a few minutes, thank you!

Great recreation. Such a stark contrast from the side of the moon that we see from Earth. Terrain looks even more inhospitable and rugged.

Another outstanding video by the SVS!! I love their lunar videos using the data from LRO. Especially the annual year of the moon in 5 minutes videos!!

What are the straight lines around 1.25 ->1.32 bottom right hand quadrant of screen to right @ about 4pm of the large crater in view ? The shape of everything else in the video looks like impact craters and are very round - straight lines look out of place in this environment - recreation is very kool BTW !

Does anyone knows what is that strange line structure at 1:25 ? (bottom right).
Are there any detail pictures from that region?

So which mountain was Mount Marilyn? ;)

Little side note/fun fact: I actually got to meet Jim Lovell, Commander of Apollo 13, about 12-13 years ago when he visited his (now closed) restaurant in Lake Forest, Illinois. He'd always make it a point to meet with every customer whenever he visited the restaurant.

I can see that from my house. Like I was on land. I had a 2x Barlow with a 4mm magnification .
From a 9.25" Schmitt cassegrain Celestron. Amazing seeing the moon's color change on the surface. Incredible thanks for the vid my friend
