Container shipping is the most used transportation mode worldwide for dry cargo. The biggest container ships can carry 24,000 twenty-foot containers and they are loaded on top of each other.

The container stack onboard ship can go 8 tiers high which is equivalent to a 7-story building! Still, these containers do not fall off the ship when the ship is out at sea and even encountering rough weather.

This video explains how containers are secured on ships and why they do not fall off even in rough seas.

nice video, but regarding twist locks..here is a liitle mistake- on wheather deck we use semi-automatic or automatic twistlocks ( they locked automatically when container loads on another one) . on your screen are manual twistlocks. they used only on first tier on deck . 😉

If you find a container can you claim it as salvage, and what if said container damages your boat ?

That is why I did not understand it at first look. They are tied at their ends, not sides. And you have to look closely for those ropes.

I’m a trucker and we have locks on the chassis once the container is placed on but I was curious as to how the hell they were stacked so high and never fall.
