Something i have noticed with the majority of channels over the years I have been a channel member of: Lots of channels, with the perks they pick for members that seem great, yet the creator never seems to come through with them, so i naturally stop being a member
.
I also notice wishy washy attempts at fulfilling those perks and the biggest most confusing, most lamest perk is member shout outs in my opinion. This one i do have myself as a perk, yet i do not fully understand how i am supposed to do this, and also neither do a lot of other channels out there i believe because all they do is give a generic shout outs that lazily covers every channel member with how they say and present their message. member shout outs the most confusing perk imo and the one that seems to not make any sense as to how we are supposed to do it. many take the easiest path and just include all members in one lazy sentence as i just pointed out and this is hilariously pathetic imo.

Long story short, i see it over and over with perks that Channels never actually intend to have happening in my opinion and they do it because they can and perks do not get enforced for some reason: They all make the excuses when confronted; 'Just be patient the custom emojis will be here soon' or they say, 'it will happen soon just wait', or they will say they 'are working on them'. Lol! They never seem to have any sense of urgency to fulfill their promised perks. *wow what a long comment!* Too many creators do not take their perks seriously, in my opinion, when they make them and they don't live up to their promises i have noticed this is a common theme, so to speak. thanks for reading this wall of text.

Youtube should substitude subscriptions with a base level of membership. It would solve so many problems!

As a viewer I agree. I’ll never sign up for one. But as a creator who recently saw quick success, supporters are actually fanatical. I’m now scrambling to finish my website to send traffic there. I’d rather do that than keep my supporters on YouTube.

None of that is bad. YouTube is creating a way for people to make money. It’s okay that they regulate it and take a percentage because that’s the fee you pay for starting on a platform where all your customers are coming from. People watch YouTube. They’re not watching your blog videos unless you first start on YouTube and then point them to your blog.

Thanks for being honest with this. So sad the channels that are getting fooled.

recently there are youtubers who offer news about certain celebrities, but they only give part of this news and then say, if you want to know more, you can go here and see it, and then you click and find out that you have to pay to see the rest of their news. This was annoying because why would I want only part of the news? They want to sell the most interesting parts. This just felt like they wanted to exploit the celebrities and me both. One of their paid content stories was about how maybe this celebrity was sexually harassed. It's just felt wrong. I wasn't going to pay for a membership anyway, and this just raised moral questions for me. Is this kind of thing really allowed? It seems like exploitation.

as a viewer, i won't pay for a membership. I'm not saying that i'm right, it's just my view. I lose interest in a channel when i realize that i'm not seeing all of the content. For me, it creates division between the creator and the viewer. Longtime subs might not be able to afford it. Another factor is once you start becoming a member on many channels, it will hurt financially. I think loyalty is a two street, and memberships go against the loyalty factor. Again, not arguing, just stating my opinion.

Great video! I actually am more certain that I will use membership but I will think a lot about what I will offer and if I can fulfill it. In the end YouTube membership should give something valuable in return for the viewers that enjoy your channel.

Thank you for this. I have been debating whether to start a channel membership. I am glad I am debating it and haven't just jumped into it. I will think about it for a while still.

This is useful. I mean, I could go up to $15 if that means staying on top, but I still need to constrain myself from overspending so I'd stick with 10 if the folks hosting my favorite livestream channel are willing to keep the membership prices below $25.

Can I speak openly on my membership? I talk all things healing your relationship with food. However whenever I mention binge eating etc. YouTube flags my videos. So I was thinking to provide those tips for channel membership. So I can provide advice and speak openly for those that need it, but don’t lower my CPM? So my open channel video would not include those words.

So are the days of just getting views and Subscribers to make money on YouTube over? I just reached monetization and don't really like the idea of creating memberships, but it looks like a requirement now. Is this correct? I'm just looking to make a few extra hundred bucks a month.

There is already so many streaming services that require a subscription fee to use, I feel like you will just deter people from watching your videos if you offer a membership. With that said I think it is ludicrous that people will risk distancing their fan base, and ruin positive channel growth.

Do the creators know when you cancel your membership

I've reached the part where you send a scanned picture of your ID choice. It allows me to upload but then shows no send button. I've sent ID verification directly to AdSense via their site, but the red warning line is still there in YT. Anyone?
