Despite a small, and vocal, group of physicians who argue that antidepressants are not effective, the empirical data are fairly consistent: The drugs do have a significant, albeit modest, effect on a multitude of depression outcomes. Randomized trials show that drugs like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) reduce scores on depression inventories and increase the remission rate above placebo by about 30%.

Today, we'll examine whether that translates into improved quality of life.

BEFORE any drug is used, why not prescribe and monitor lifestyle changes. Especially sleep and CBT-I, for instance.

Thanks for addressing this issue. These brief videos may also work well within the YouTube ‘Shorts’ space..? 🤔

Antidepressants alone are not enough in my opinion. Pts should also undergo psychotherapy, including assistance with sleep etc...

I think an important question to ask here is who is actually conducting and funding these studies. If a study is conducted or funded by a drug manufacturer, or if a pharma company ceo is on the board of any colleges conducting these studies in direct or indirect manner, if these people are making donations to such institutions, there will obviously a huge bias and they will certainly not publish results that might discredit the drug. they will have a conflict of interest.
