Dad was issued one like this when he was in the army. For years I thought it was his personal knife. Then one day I never saw it again. He eventually found one in a surplus sale and bought it.

I owned one of those M9 Field knives during the 90's when I was young and it was the best knife I have ever had the privilege to carry.

Got a Buck Phrobis III in 1989 while in the Marines. I paid $150 back in the day because you couldn't find them in the inventory. It is a great knife for its intended purpose. I cut alot of bobwire, time fuse, det cord, and wire for communication. Two problems with my knife. One was with the sheath with rivets breaking. A quick fix with some 5/50 cord made a stronger repair than the original rivets. The second was the sharpening stone cracked after about 8-9 years of field use. I never babied the knife and it stood up to alot of hard use.

Bought mine used for $25! Feels nice in the hand like a full tang blade. Close to being my favorite knife besides my trust Buck 119 special

The price of freedom is not cheap. The Phrobis is be far the best Bayonet of modern time. Our military deserves the best equipment we can provide. Has many more options than the M-7.

Both the Phrobis M9 and the German KCB-77 did win the 1986 U.S. Army XM9 trials. The reason why Phrobis won the contract was simply because it was a more modern looking design and most importantly it was a domestic design. The KCB-77 did get adopted by other NATO countries like Germany, Spain, U.K. and Israel though.
On a different note Phrobis also submitted another prototype during the trials, it was called PXM9. Instead of having a wire cutting lug on sheath it had a dedicated external wire-cutter attached to the sheath. It was rejected due to its weight.

This is the M9 Phrobis bayonet which was first issued to troops in 1987. You're thinking of the Lan-Cay M9 bayonet which came out in 1992. The LanCay did not have the lightning cut or the pouch on the scabbard.

But do you have it in Forest DDpat, field tested, with stattrak?

Of course it's necessary. This knife is one BAD MOTHER ! Use a sharpening rod for a great edge. This thing fits on my Mossberg 590 shotgun. If it passed US Military testing, that's good enough for me.

Someone said that the saw was for doing damage to flesh. I don't know.
