Studying for PSAT/NMSQT, and this practice question popped up. Thank you for reminding me of how to do functions, and how this question worked, I now understand.

hi .. what do you call these type of problems. My daughter is working on similar problems, but with added difficulty. IF
f( (x-1)/3 ) = x +7, find f(x+1).. I used your concept by reversing the arithmetic that took place on x in the function so (x-1)/3, was reversed as (x*3)+1=3x+1.. then x on the right side of the problem was replaced by 3x+1. so f(x)= 3x+1+7 = 3x+8... now that I know f(x), I can find f(x-1), by replacing x with x-1, so I get, f(x-1)= 3(x-1)+8= 3x+5..
Did I do it right?
