Today we take another look at some "Physical NFT's" that i found in my local game store. and honestly its an absolute mess. broken apps, destruction of mother nature through NFT's, and sad childeren. i cannot wait for NFT's to vanish.

In this video, I'm sharing my thoughts on physical NFT trading cards. I think they're insanely dumb, and I think they're a scam.Don't waste your time and money on physical NFT trading cards – they're just a scam!I don't think they're worth the time or effort, and I think they're pointless. I think they're a scam because there's no real benefit to owning them other than bragging rights. And I think they're pointless because there's no real use for them in the world.

One of our loacal grocery stores was selling the set of cards you burned. I got talking to the manager and he said they never sold 1 packet so they sent em back got refunded and replaced the card for chewable things to help with indigestion because they actually sell 😂

I like how these probably only exist because of us saying that you don't actually physically own your NFT, and they still manage to fuck the physical part up.

I literally don't understand how physical NFTs 'can' exist. Wasn't the whole point they were just JPEG hotlinks to a binary designation on some stupid database someplace, representing your designated position 'on' that database? What IS a physical NFT, even?

As am employee at a popular game store chain, The big boxes of these cards have been collecting dust since they came in. Just one more thing to dust off every day.

I don't know if it's a European thing, but we have these chocolate eggs with a small toy inside (Kinder Surprise). There is a collection of these toys and they are small plastic animals. You can scan the figure using a mobile app and it will put the animated version of the animal in front of you using AR. You can use voice commands to let the animal do jumps, dances, whatever... And it also works as a learning tool so you can learn more stuff about the animal and play different mini-games. It's a cheap thing for kids and even that is way more useful, interactive, and interesting than this NFT crap.

So... some kids sit together, "enjoying" their cards, start scanning them.. and the camera picks up EVERY QR CODE, that randomly might be in their field of view? That shit would end friendships... if anyone would actually care about those cards

To me this is full circle because NFTs seemed like trading cards from the beginning.
Many modern trading cards already have collector gimmicks like serial numbers and limited prints, autographs etc.

In other words: These packs offer a unique learning experience for kids to teach them the important lesson to stay away from NFTs. Seems like they're worth the price.

Looking at the speed, I'm thinking the cards are locally loaded.
Which makes me think the updates was the app downloading **all** of the cards and letting you unlock the ones you scan.
If it is, that means you have all the jpegs already.

QR scanner probably uses some sort of open source google scanner.
It's actually lazy that they don't analyze only the window (as overlay shows) and simply scan whole camera preview.

Most likely nothing written by them

I am somehow disappointed that "i am callum Upton and you are not" is not your new signature phrase, because it is an amazing signature phrase .

You 'mint' them randomly... from a 'booster' pack of random 'Physical NFTs', some of them are rarer than others, they have a semblance of monetary value depending on how desirable they are by a certain subset of a certain community....

My guy, they have rediscovered trading cards.

I love it. First, we have real scarcity, thanks to the limitations of physical goods. Then we get artificial scarcity, where a producer intentionally makes less of their goods to artificially increase value. Then, we got imaginary scarcity, with digital goods that are given completely made up limitations, like NFTs. And now, these geniuses have combined both artificial and imaginary scarcity in such a way that they cancel each other out and make the entire thing completely worthless. It would be impressive if it wasn't so sad.

Maybe we should just go back to banging rocks together and try starting all this civilization stuff over again, because something clearly went very wrong somewhere.

If DC just made regular trading card, they might actually sell better. Make shinny comic book cover cards as the rare cards.
The app dev can probably make more money if they make an app for cataloging trading cards. That personal database of what you own would actually be helpful for regular card collectors.

"in order to know if it's been scanned, you have to scan it, nullifying your sale..." that's actually hilarious I love that

I can’t imagine any NFT bros actually leaving their bedrooms and going to a physical store. No wonder they aren’t selling!

The easter islands starved and collapsed because they chopped down the last tree on their isolated island-world for their stone-statue NFTs.

My thoughts on why the updates are so big is all the images are already in the app and the QR code just pulls them up.

I'm... kinda shocked they had access to the DC license for these. Did they? I wonder if they pitched this to DC as simply a collectible card thing, maybe even a game with an app tie in, without even mentioning NFT. If they did, DC should sue. This has tarnished their brand way more than any poorly done movie ever could.

It's like someone saw that video where the guy was buying Pokemon cards and could tell without opening them that they'd already been opened and resealed; and their immediate thought was "Aha, so we need to make it so you *can't* tell".
