A toy gun? The Ruger LCP Max

preview_player

Is the Ruger LCP Max just a cheap, plastic, toy gun chambered in a caliber that’s only going to piss off a bad guy? The trigger pull alone may give that impression, but we're going to check it out and see what this pistol is all about.

Picked up mine mid-July... I LOVE IT!

For the longest time I was seriously thinking LCPII, they are a bit skinny in the hand but appealing none the less. I am glad I waited long enough for this come out! The grip is wider, and fits my hand, and several others I have show this too, very nicely.

I have managed to put a total of 400 rounds through it during 3 different outings, and yes I had to break into my back stock but it is worth it, and I am very happy with its performance. I have ran Round Nose FMJ's, Flat Nose FMJ's & Jacketed Hollow Points, through it with no issues. Even when mixed in the same mag!

The 10 round mag is supplied with a flush mount base plate, I did swap it out for the supplied finger rest base plate and it works just perfectly for me!

Reference the somewhat common compliant about the slide not locking back. I too had that happen while dry firing it, however, live fire has NEVER failed to lock back on the last round!

I wear Wrangler jeans pretty much always, and the front right pocket works for carry, its comfortable while I am in a vehicle, or at my desk. I forget its there when I'm at the grocery store ect.

Recently, I picked up a nifty little holster, Tactical Scorpion Gear, for the LCPII. The paddle is a bit difficult for me, but the belt attachment works flawlessly! The LCP Max fits in this awesome holster perfectly.

Empty weight, with the pocket holster, is 11.68 oz. Add the 10 + 1 rounds, I see 15.34 oz on my digital kitchen scale.

I'm thinking I will get a 12 round mag later on, but frankly the 10 round fits my needs well!

I'm seeing more and more new videos on the LCP Max in the past week or 2. I'm glad I got mine a month or so ago cuz they might be even harder to find now with all these vids saying how awesome it is. P.S, it is.

When Jeff Quinn of Gunblast was asked what gun he’d take if he KNEW he was going to be in a gunfight, he responded that he’d take the Marine Corps. My point being, a big gun left at home does little good, so if a lightweight .380 like the LCP Max fosters program compliance, as you mention, then it is indeed worthy of inclusion in your arsenal.

The LCP max is a great EDC gun because it is small enough to carry in warm weather. I can carry it in shorts or sweatpants. It is not a pleasure to shoot on the range but it is designed for up-close self-defense. It is accurate at 7-10 yards the distance I practice. I plan to get the Sigurd trigger so I can practice more. With ammo like Critical Defense, it is effective stopping power. I can't carry my CZ 75 PCR easily in warm weather.

I have a LCP .380 first gen with laser. Had it for several years and still carry it in my back pocket even when I carry my other guns on my side.

I purchased this LCP Max about 6 weeks ago. The only issue I had was the failure of the slide locking back on an empty magazine. I contacted Ruger and at no charge they shipped me a new magazine and the problem was gone. I carry my Sig P365 in an appendix Blade-Tech Klipt holster wearing jeans or shorts and it is invisible with a t-shirt over it, and my LCP MAX in my pocket. At 7 yards it is as accurate and reliable as the little Sig 9mm. Great little pocket rocket! Nice video brother 👍

Interesting perspective. I like the Max and it is my pocket gun in the rare times I don't carry a 9mm IWB. While .380 ACP has low recoil in a compact or even sub-compact pistol, I would not consider this gun's recoil "mild" - it weighs only 10 ounces unloaded and really snaps in my hand. I also don't consider it fun or pleasant to shoot, and as a result don't take it to the range as often as I maybe should. For what it is though, it's a well-designed gun, and the capacity and sights are great for such a tiny thing. Good value, too. Thanks for the video.

I’ve been looking at a pocket pistol to buy, the Ruger LCP MAX seems to be the best choice. .380 isn’t as good as 9mm but with the Underwood ammunition with the screwdriver tip I think it will be fine. I don’t think hollow points that are subsonic will expand reliably in any caliber. The red or green laser to mount on the trigger guard is a nice option to have at around $85. The trigger seems great when compared to the S&W Bodyguard, plus the 10 or 12 round magazines are a big plus for the Ruger LCP MAX.

With the right ammo a 380 is just as effective as a 9mm. I've carried a 340 PD 357 magnum snub nose for decades, and now switched to an LCP max.

I received the 10th anniversary edition for a Christmas gift and it was a updated original edition. I love it

Handgun ammunition only pokes hole and causes bleeding. A 380 and 9mm both poke 9mm holes and can go all the way through. I carry both.

I totally agree with the comments! I was Law Enforcement and a firearms instructor for years and love the trigger pull and the high capacity mags! Shorts weather doesn’t allow for big, heavy guns here in New Mexico. The cost is very reasonable as Great overall CCW

Bill Hickok carried 2 36 cal navy colts. Around 75 to 85 grain ball ammunition at around 900 to 1000 fps. That's pretty much the same as the 380. He is considered one of the deadliest man with a handgun in history. In the right hands and the 380. Is enough. Shot placement and ammo design are the key. I'm talking about self defense by the way. The ruger 380. With its improved trigger, outstanding night sights, capacity and weight and reliability is a great choice.

I love mine, those sights are great. It's a close range gun. 7 yrds. Practice, Practice, Practice, proper grip and shots on target will always get the job done. Shot placement is always key. YouTube is full of videos where the shooter misses the target. If you do your part the 380 will get the job done.

This baby is in my front pocket (basketball and sweat pants shorts) everywhere I go! 12+1 NOVX pentagon monolithic hollow points. Nasty little bullets and super light. I do not feel outgunned.
