This might be controversial but… is it wrong to charge for order packing videos? 🤔

I love the way you handle different circumstances that arise for you. You're so professional, and I appreciate that so much.
I don't see anything wrong with offering the option. I like the idea that you're still going to randomly pack some orders on camera.

It would depend on how you price it because an issue I could see is that now hundreds of people want their orders on video and now you HAVE to record, edit, and post them whereas before, you didn't have that obligation. You could record and post however many you wanted whenever you wanted. You don't want to be stuck with another accidental part time job 😬😅

Ethically I think it’s fine but I wonder if you could get too many people choosing that option. Would it be like an extra “item” they add to cart so it’s a limited quantity?

you can have them be in a video if they buy a specific product! like a limited product or seasonal pattern!

Like you said it’s similar to a priority shipping option, so go ahead and charge a little bit for it! Maybe add a bonus freebie sticker (a tiny camera because it was packed live)?
Plus restaurants charge for swapping out toppings or extras, why not add a few bucks for the guaranteed work of editing and filling. Yes, you’d do it anyway at random, but people are literally only paying you for the product and base shipping so why not upcharge a small amount for an extra request on their order?

I don’t like the idea of charging for ASMR packing video… it makes the vendor/seller sound money hungry although I understand that they are paying for the time, editing, ensure their order got package but I agree it’s a little weird to be charged for it.

I like the randomness of selecting orders to film for packaging.

As a small biz owner myself, nah… I would never do this. Anyone who creates content online can tell you how much actual work it takes to make these 60s or less videos with all the cuts and edits. It takes me like 30mins to do one lol. And we all know time is money. But I wouldn’t charge for something I know I would continue to do for free for MY OWN BENEFIT. If these businesses stopped getting so many orders, this wouldn’t really be a question because we all started super small and did these videos for free as a form of advertisement. Half of the small businesses on TikTok are literally getting orders because of their packing videos. So I think it’s greedy. You can simply just NOT make the videos lol but that’s is your form of marketing so we all know these businesses are going to make the videos regardless. It’s a good topic to bring up! I think a better idea is to leave a tip jar or a kofi or cashapp link so that IF people want to donate to you to for your content, they can. That’s what I do to some where I really love their packing videos. I’d rather donate when I can than flat out charge customers for something I would already do anyway.

I think it’s actually MORE ethical to charge for it. Right now, a lot of people want to see their order in a video but it’s a lottery style system. And lotteries make many people lose. But if you put the pay option, then they can know 100%.

I think if the charge was kept within reason, the consumer would make a choice of whether to pay it or not. I appreciate you asking for feedback, it shows you care 😊.

I think it'd be nice to have it as an option, and the fact you'd still pick some random ones is so nice💖

Nope. I would stick with your primary product.

Maybe as you mentioned doing random ones you could choose 3 or so random orders to film or choose the first 3 orders over $100 by X date, etc.

Tyen you could notify folks by email their order will be on video (after it's edited and about to bee posted & go from there.

I think it’s okay to charge for it, idk the amount though. Like you said, it’s basically order prioritization, plus it’s an additional service you’re technically providing for them

Yes, it's an extra service you are providing to the customer. Time is money 💰

As long as there's a free option and paying option everything is okay. But, if you don't have a free option, simply set a bit higher price for products that cover basic packing expenses.

Wouldn’t that get overwhelming for you ? Maybe do a first come first serve basis. Have a limit of people per month as could see this being a big chaotic and overwhelming, but then again I don’t know if you have employees or you have lots of help.

girl, get that money, if people don’t want it they won’t buy it, simple as that. not to mention you are still going to be doing random orders so there’s literally nothing to stop you. love you bestie

You’re getting paid to do the work behind the scenes—video editing. That my dear in itself is another job. You’re also a video editor, so I’d charge.

I wouldn’t feel right charging the customer either but some ppl are willing to pay for the FEELING of “omg im watching my order be packed “ vs ppl that want to ensure it’s packed properly? First case you can charge, second not so much. Trouble is there’s no way to tell so.. maybe a tip option??

Is no one gonna talk about how big that order was

It depends how much you charge. If it's reasonable, I don't see an issue.
