Yet another astounding video. Thank you Dr. Greene for hosting such quality over the years. And you have to love Dr. Albrecht's enthusiasm and excitement about the science. He just can't wait to see what's around the next corner, and you can't help but be excited along with him.

One of the most brilliant, clear, and illuminating conversations I have heard on inflation and entropy!! Thank you.

Beauty - I think I've watched the whole WSF channel... so these new videos are a godsend! It's nice to escape all of the other crap going on in the world.

Man, I can't get enough, these cosmoogy talks are always incredibly fascinating!
I feel like I've read/ heard everything there is to know about what we know so far, but I keep watching these talks cause I might have missed something, plus a good refresher is always needed.

The most interesting part of this conversation for me was from 1:18:35 to 1:21:33. Thank you for a great conversation I listened to the whole thing. Always a pleasure to listen to ideas about cosmology. Great interview with Andy Albrecht. Thank you Brian for great comments too.

I took Prof Albrecht's grad course on Cosmology. It was a pleasure learning from him, and his student, Arsalan, is one of one... they both are. Incredible stuff.

We need more of this... the world needs more of this.

Thank you!

I don’t understand how these videos don’t get more views.

I was slightly disappointed that so much time was devoted to meta-issues about other physicists' preferences and biases, taking precious space away from learning more about how a genuinely creative and less public physicist like Albrecht thinks differently about entropy and time. Thanks for such a fantastic channel.

I have spend a big part of my life with Brian since I started to read his books 25 years ago. His writing made me enthusiastic for 11 dimensions. And I did think that time did not exists for "waves", and that one particle, not in time prison, was enough to build the hole universe.
Not a "believer" of 11 dimensions, or inflation any more. But, One particle that builds everything, is an idea I have problems to leave. Explains entanglement. And other creepy things.

I would enjoy watching Albrecht snd Turok on a panel, discussing inflation.

I want to hear the conversation that was cut out at 1:10:41 but amazing talk. Thank you Brian Greene and Dr. Albrecht and team!

Brian and team are raising the tide of human intelligence faster and more efficiently than any mechanism, medium, or natural system in our species history.

From Itaca, awesome! My dad went to Cornell and im from a town close by called Endicott. Ithaca is still a favorite spot for our mini vacations!

In the discussion about entropy, my answer is that the universe starting from low entropy is actually good news for inflation, since only low entropy patches can inflate. You can imagine the underlying mechanism being at high entropy for "eternity", with fluctuations to low entropy states. Every now and then, the conditions will be such that a patch of low entropy will form and that patch will inflate to make a new universe that will experience the arrow of time until it gets back to the equilibrium, high entropy state that it came from. Since inflation can only start from very low entropy states, it's no wonder that we're in such a situation - higher entropy patches simply don't inflate. So universes necessarily start from low entropy states by the selection effect given by the fact that gravity behaves repulsively only in a very low entropy form of energy distribution.

So to me it's pretty clear that we could have started from a high entropy state which fluctuated locally to a low entropy state and created the conditions to inflate our spacetime, just like a smooth patch of water can be formed inside of a bubbling, boiling, high entropy water state.

The most merciful thing in the world for us men,
I think, is our weakness in seeing the whole truth.

We live on a quiet island of ignorance in the
midst of the black sea of infinity, and it was
not intended that we should travel far.

The sciences, each thinking in its own direction,
have hitherto done us little harm. But one day the
merging of all separate knowledge will open such
terrifying views of reality and our hopeless
position in it, that we shall either be
overwhelmed by the revelation.

Or flee from the glaring light into the peace and
safety of a new, dark age.
