Exterior PVC Trim: Weathertight Outside Corners

Показать описание
On this restoration, the entryway recedes into the building, creating an outside corner to either side. With such a close-up view, crafting a weathertight outside corner with a joint that won’t open is especially important. This can be a challenge when restoring an old building, since things aren’t always plumb and square, forcing a fair amount of cutting and fitting prior to any glue.

In this second episode of our PVC trim series, lead carpenter Dan Booth walks us through the process of measuring and fitting VERSATEX PVC trimboards before using the “tape method” to glue up weathertight outside corners.

I had to make 96 lf of 45 degree corners. This video helped a lot. I found some cheap velcro strips and used them to hold the corners together for gluing. Work great at about the price of a roll of blue tape. I used 717 Weldon PVC glue.

Great video. Thoughts on a biscuit between header and vertical trim?

In 2023, how does PVC stack up, relatin' to cost per buck for board foot, of say... Cedar or clear-grained Spruce or Jack Pine?

I would still be putting tape over every joint.

Anybody else feel terrible when that cloud of PVC shreds disperses into the environment. I'm still using this stuff, but even with a shop vacuum on the saw, it still goes everywhere.
