I wonder if this was a reference to the fact uraraka used to be mt.lady on the first few drafts of bnha. well more like mt.lady was suppose to be on uraraka place. you can find drawings of old class 1A where mt.lady was 16 years old and was suppose to be in class 1A. everything else was the same from her name to quirk. but because how similar she looked to uraraka and the fact she was always on the same drawing as izuku makes it look like she was suppose to be close to him. I think the reason they changed that was because the gigantism quirk did not have many uses for class 1A and they wanted a more energetic and happy girl to contrast izuku personality.

They usually keep making Sero’s character useless except he did the win the challenge race once follow by teaming up with Deku and Uraraka at Hero License Exam, he tracks down Tokage’s quirk, he also teams up with Uraraka again along with Mineta by distracting Nine, he helps Deku to control his Blackwhip and last is during Deku vs Class A he restrain Deku’s Blackwhip but let’s for Season 7 they can make his character useful
