Fascinating video!
As a German my family has fought for the Wehrmacht during WW2.
The eldest brother of my Grandfather served in the German navy as an officer, he was on submarine U-107 which sank British ship Colonial off Guinea, French West Africa; the entire crew of 100 survived and rescued by HMS Centurion.
His nephew was a sniper on the French coast where the allies called "Juno Beach".

I have much respect and appreciation for all my brothers across the Atlantic!

This is a 're-badged' video from the TV series "The War Years". It was awesome! It started at the beginning of The Great War and went right through to Vietnam. I would imagine that it had over 20 episodes. I used to watch it on CityTV out of Toronto in the late '80s every Saturday afternoon. This was always one of my favourite episides: "The Battle of the Atlantic."

My father's Liberty ship was sunk by a German U boat in the South Atlantic in March of 1943. He recalled that while in a life boat the sub surfaced broke the water then slipped below the waves. There were no fatalities and he was picked up several hours later by a Dutch 14:08 freiter. While on board another sailer jokingly told my father he owed them something for picking them up. He gave the sailor his hat. He and his other ship mates were dropped off in South Africa.

I was anticipating an interview with the former Uboat skipper Kretchmer and with Donetz

I wonder how they film through the periscope with such a clear picture and the torpedo leaving the sub...

My father was a 22 year old second lieutenant entering the war in 1944. Before that he was an EE student by day and a swing shift sheet metal worker in Todd Shipyards in Seattle.

The only thing that amazes me is that Churchill's liver lasted longer than World War 2.. What with him being a prolific enthusiast of the fruits of the vine.

Adm. Howard Johnson. He started a hotel chain after the war.

The British set out a rumor that several British ships were waiting for «Admiral Graf Spee» just outside Montevideo. The captain believed in this rumor and sank the ship to avoid the British to capture her.
When he realized he had been tricked, he took his own life.

Many Canadians sailing out of Halifax and Sydney NS in convoys gave their lives in the Battle of The Atlantic. I wonder how many or few Americans know about their, US, Seaplane base located in North Sydney, Nova Scotia?
