The thing about the "Fight or be forgotten" line is... Old Aatrox told this to his enemies, New Aatrox tells this to himself. If he stops fighting, he reverts into his prison... In the dark, hungry, unable to breathe, unable to scream... Just a sword, buried and... Forgotten.

If you think about it, Aatrox is still the most innocent and empathetic of the three main Darkin. Whilst Rhaast relishes in the carnage, and Varus believes it to be righteous, Aatrox knows what he's doing is wrong. He knows that the violence and bloodshed he brings are painful and tragic for all involved and he loathes it, he loathes himself because of it. He clings so desperately to the idea of what he once was, that he believes his only escape is to find peace in death. And even then, he cannot find it for himself, only inflict it on others.

"I offer you victory." A simple sentence but its the one thing that Aatrox desire's most. Death. He gives them what he cannot, victory in death. Something he can never achieve no matter who he fights.

I used to despise his lore rework when I first heard it. He seemed like an angry teenager hell bent on sounding like a tryhard. Now having an idea of the stories they rewrote for him and the miserable fate he ended up with, I now see the pain and sorrow that echoes thru each line, how tired yet determined he is to find rest. If anything else, I respect his commitment to the role he's been given, unjustly though it may have been. I just hope someone comes and gives him the freedom he long craves, that peace that has long far eluded him.
