I like to think Zoan fruit are self aware and are able to absorb objects the deem useful if nothing eats them. In the case of the elephant; it's not that a sword ate the fruit, it's that the fruit ate a sword.

I think an argument can be made that One Piece's mc, Luffy is actually a logia type devil fruit user. Perhaps granting him more strength than if he was the paramecia everyone assumes. Anyone else concur or am I grasping at straws

Now, this Mythical Logia Devil Fruit is known as the Weather-Weather fruit, aka, the fruit where when one eats it, they will have control over the weather.
